Dundalk near its first Treble

I cannot stop speaking about a squad so prone for success and perfection that so far is heading into its third league shield with just three matches left in this campaign.

With back to back wins over the Shamrock Rovers and now on a rare scheduled Monday night match and playing as a visitor against relegation prone Longford Town at City Calling Stadium.

The Lilywhites are heading into their third shield in a consecutive way as well with today’s one of a kind win, the Louth County Boys are heading in the right direction as well looking up to be proclaimed as the champions SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.

What a year for the squad of Stephen Kenny showing of a marvelous and playing another gem of a campaign, still three is the magic number to clinch the always coveted and desired league shield.

Still this squad can deliver to its followers another satisfaction of netting their third shield as well looking forward to make a stand in the FAI League playoff and net a double of a shield in this campaign.

With a resounding win over a decimated foe in the Town Boys, once again coming up in the promotion in this campaign championship and seeing their efforts dwindle once again due to their modest and decimated football displayed.

The soon to be champions Dundalk FC did put on a show and thanks to scores from Dave Massey, Dave Mc Millan and Darryl Hogan who contributed for the visiting cause and gave them three points of gold and a solid lead.

A win worth of gold and that gave Stephen Kenny squad a certain edge over their close foes Cork City who saw their luck fade when they played a very inspired St. Patrick’s Athletic  who played the role of spoilers and gave the Lilywhites an edge in the table.

So far, the Dundalk Boys have a seven point edge over the Leesiders and with three matches pending in the campaign to call it a wrap, their next compromise in league play will be against the Dublin based Bohemians at home.

Then against the St Pats. At Richmond and close at home in Oriel Park against the Tribesmen of Galway United, after this match maybe we will see them celebrating raucously their achievement at Oriel Park and putting another shield in its halls.

With seventy-one points atop the league table, and sixty-four from the Rebel Army, we might state that this contest may be over but there is still some ground for the Leesiders to make a strong run in its last three matches and catch up.

At the end I doubt it with an inspired and motivated Dundalk squad playing like there is no tomorrow and after these are juggling a tough schedule with league, cup and international play with the Europa Cup, these chaps can be considered as a super team.

After all, they already won their Monday night match and now looking forward to their upcoming international compromise against Russian side Zenith St. Petersburg at Tallaght Stadium, scheduled on Thursday October 20.

What a week will be for the chaps of Dundalk FC, now to focus on their complicated international match and to close on Sunday against the Bohemians FC squad, with a win these can clinch their treble and add their twelve shield in their history.
