This was Captain Jack
Jewsbury last match at Providence Park in the regular campaign as a very especial
and emotional day for the men that saw it all, wearing the green uniform of his
beloved PTFC, since his squad inception in Major league Soccer.
One thing for sure,
after seeing all the show of support and affection from a very grateful Timbers
fan base, he knew there was something missing in this to be his one of a kind
day.
Despite being his last
match in league, play at home.
Still his desire of
seeing his PTFC continuance and assuring a spot in the grand fete of the postseason,
became one of his priorities and his center of attention, as he was
aware of the situation and needs his squad was into.
A win would allow his
Timbers to see the light for another day, their only problem, was the rival in
turn in a ruthless Colorado Rapids squad that so far touted as an all-around favorite
to win the league shield.
Alongside of being in
the race for the coveted and prestigious Supporters Shield, as those three
points would be ideal for the Coloradans and its Manager CV Pablo Mastroeni,
that so far he has put on an amazing campaign for the Rocky Mountain squad.
As all the pressure
was for the home squad and with their campaign being on the line, it’s when the
Boys of the Mighty PTFC made honor to their moniker as they did play with
plenty of spirit and will to win this match.
Especially on an
exceptional day for one of its most admired and respected of players, very well
in their effort of not falling at home where this squad has shown a lot of resilience
and a winning attitude in front of their faithful.
The Portland squad immediate
order of business was beat Colorado’s posts and it’s all star goalie Tim Howard
that seemed to be a task difficult but not impossible to consume when you had
all of your top notch initial eleven in the field.
As the return of Darren
Mattocks in the lineup alongside Darlington Nagbe and Maestro Diego Valeri being
at the helm to supply their big operate up front Faneando Adi and with the defensive
and offensive part were Diego Chara and Captain Jack Jewsbury.
We can sate for sure
that the Portland Boys sported their best galas.
A match considered vital for both squads, at
the end one persevere, and saw the light with its enthusiasm and all around fighting
spirit that netted them a valuable win at the end and seeing their prospects grew
positively.
With a win next week the
Portland Timbers can assure themselves a spot in the postseason, thanks to
Seattle odd results lately and RSL and SKC tying up, but the only bad news
comes when the Rose City squad has to play its last match away.
Here it’s when the
need to win and seek hat elusive first one of the campaign, playing in a sort
of Derby against their Cascadia foes the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place, were Caleb
Porter and his Boys have some tough time.
Still the odds seem
to be a bit even here, with the Caps already eliminated from contention for the
playoffs, the Portland squad looking for a win and assure its pass; here the Canadian
squad can play the role of spoilers.
Very well, with the Portland
squad not having three of its starters due to accumulation of yellow cards,
once again here we go with the Cheesmaster Caleb Porter improvising in his initial
eleven to seek the accomplishment.
Nothing is in peril but
the absence of Ridgewell, Chara and Zemanski will definitely be a heavy burden
on the Timbers 11, being the owners of their own destiny, as a win will put
this squad on the promised land of the postseason, no ties or losses just a simple
victory!
At the end this was
an amazing match were the Portland Boys did played as a winner and with lots of
courage and not being intimidated by the Colorado chaps, kudos to Adi despite
missing the penal and the aftermath shoot and for Vytas exceptional plays.
At the end, once
again the thrill of making it into the postseason is pending on just one match, one thing for sure is our thanks to Captain Jack Jewsbury!
