The EA Sports Cup ready for a contested showdown

With an August 7 date for kick off in the League of Ireland Cup or Corn Sraithe na hÉireann better known by its sponsor as the EA Sports Cup and a substitute for the League of Ireland Shield since 1973.

As the semifinals of this cup with a foursome in league sensation Cork City, Shamrock Rovers, Galway United and the league defending champions Dundalk FC.

The stage is set with a foursome in Cork City visiting Tallaght, measures their arsenal against the local Shamrock Rovers, as the Hoops will be looking forward to a shield not won for quite some time.

In the other match to be played a Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway, the local Tribesmen of Galway United will host the current league champions the Lilywhites of Dundalk FC.

So far, the league-undefeated club Cork City is looking like the team to beat and around this time these will not have the services of their utmost scorer Sean Maguire.

After he departs to England’s Championship League side Preston North End.

Therefore, the competition will be a bit even but in the case of City Boss John Caulfield as always will have a trick under his sleeve and seek his third cup final in this year and maybe a second trophy in this campaign.

Still the Rovers hungry for some headliners and looking forward to boost their campaign with a cup final and netting this shield, this series with the Rebel Army will be a tough test for them and manager Stephen Bradley.

By juggling a hectic League of Ireland schedule, to keep his squad in the hunt for third place and a European spot denied to them last campaign, a win in this event will end a trophy less drought in Tallaght.

For the Tribesmen of Galway United this is a grand test and facing the defending champions Dundalk FC will not be a walk in the park, still these can perform the ultimate of miracles and be the all-around spoilers.

As their semifinals match scheduled in Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway will be an advantage for manager Shane Keegan when they host the opening match of the EA Sports Cup.

In addition, looking forward to see if a pass into the finals and a win can boost the confidence of his bunch and maybe try their best to salvage their trouble campaign so far they are experiencing in the league of Ireland.

The case of Stephen Kenny bunch, the three time League of Ireland winners and first ever Irish squad to play in the  Europa League, these will be looking forward to make a run towards the finals of this event as well looking forward to a possible face off against Cork City.

As his Dundalk Boys, so far this campaign this squad has been riddle with a lot of injuries and a slow start, very well trialing the undefeated Rebel Army in their race to first by eighteen points.

A pass into the finals and a win of this shield not only will be another highlight of Kenny career at Dundalk but if it is against the Boys of City, this will be a sort of payback in their last defeats in cup play.

Who will it be ad Dundalk FC and Cork City come with the label of heavy favorites and Galway United and the Shamrock Rovers can do the ultimate of playing the role of spoilers?

Whom will it be the Cumann Peile Dhún Dealgan, Cumann Peile Ghaillimh Aontaithe, Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí, Cumann Peile Ruagairí na Seamróige to win this edition of the EA Sports Cup.
