A contested weekend in a recap of the league of Ireland


The SSE is becoming one contested association with both Dundalk FC and the defending champions Cork City getting a gasp of air later last Tuesday upset that the Lilywhites got from a fighting Shamrock Rovers.

Still this weekend the tables were turn when the Town lad’s delivers a win Ove the Super Blues away and then the Sligo Rovers returning the favor to defeat Cork City to upset the current champion’s hopes of renewing their hard fought title. 

Another interesting race is for third place with newcomer sensation Waterford now leapfrog to fourth place after their loss in Richmond Park and a determined Shamrock Rovers nabbing the third spot and last European spot.

In Carlisle Grounds, the outcome of this match was obvious for the visiting Shamrock Rovers to get a favorable win over the troubled and relegation destined Seagulls, after a goal rout that the visiting Hoops deliver.

 With scores from Daniel Carr 37’, Dylan Watts 67’ and Brandon Miele 76’ these three goals were enough for the Hoops for the win as well catapult to third place nabbing the last European spot.

Bray Wanderers 0, Shamrock Rovers 3

In Turner’s Cross the unthinkable happen in what seemed to be another easy affair for the Rebel Army but these did not look forward to a battling a hardened Sligo Rovers squad that put on a fight till the end. 

As the perseverance paid off for the Bit O’ Red in the end with a stunner in the last minutes to dent the title aspirations of the Leesiders to repeat, with an early City goal from Karl Sheppard 8’, the Rovers return the favor with David Cawley 71 and the game hero Rafaelle Cretaro 84’.

Cork City 1, Sligo Rovers 2

It happened in Inchicore where the local Pats brought mayhem to the visiting Waterford squad and allowing their cross-town foes the Hoops to pull at third and the Blues moving to fourth place. 

The Saints scores came from Achile Campion 54’ and a double from Michael Leahy 83’ and 86’ to seal the deal and sealing a comfortable lead in fifth place over Derry City and Bohemian’s.

Saint Patrick’s Athletic 3, Waterford 0

In Markets Field, the visiting Dundalk FC barely squeezed by a battling Super Blues that did not surrendered any liberties to the Town lads until that fatidic goal in the 81’ minute by Michael Duffy. 

This loss really put the Limerick side in a dire situation and for the Lilywhites these extended their lead in the overall table to six points over Cork City and with six matches in the campaign left, the outlook of this race to the shield is shaping up to Stephen Kenny and company. 

Limerick 0, Dundalk 1

In Brandywell Stadium, the locals Candystripes struggles continue even at home with a suddenly battling Bohemian trying to assure their permanency and with another win away, this squad for sure can show its might. 

With scores in both halves one with just minute in the clock by Daniel Corcoran and later in the second half and Daniel Kelly 54’ minute to seal the win for these Gypsies playing lately a top rated game of football.

Derry City 0, Bohemians 2
