In spite of the win, for Stephen Kenny it is not over yet

Cork City 0, Dundalk 1
Turner’s Cross-Stadium, Cork City

A nine-point lead over Cork City and a win at Turners’ Cross what can a squad ask for after a notable and important win over the defending champions Cork City by the minimum difference of just one goal.

With an early goal with just three minutes into the game, the Lilywhites defense stepped up its game with a clean sheet over their archrivals and a total dominance stopping the offensive might of the Leesiders who just managed three shoots at goal.

In one of the League of Ireland utmost of derbies, the Lilywhites came poised and determined to net a positive result but on the way they delivered over the City side seeing how their archrivals are extending their lead by nine points.

However, for Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny despite his side win, still for him this is not over and the need to continue delivering notable results are necessary to lift the league shield the sooner the better.

For the Town side with just five matches left in the campaign, that include the Pats, Derry City, Waterford, Sligo Rovers and Bohemians, in this schedule anything can happen, as Kenny hints of a possible Rebel Army revival.

In the case of the Rebel Army in need of wins and with 5 matches left in the campaign, with the Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers, Limerick, Derry City and Bray Wanderers, for John Caulfield and company anything can be within his City reach.

As early in the game with a nice one two combination of Patrick Hoban making some cuts on two City defenders Sean McLoughlin and Connor McCarthy with his deflection put the ball in the back of the net to the dismay and frustration of the locals goalkeeper.

Contrary to the joy of the Dundalk contingent singing aloud in the course of the match of who is the new champions, as well seeing the game the Lilywhites displayed all evening long in a sold out Turners Cross.

With nine points lead, a win in Turner’s Field for Dundalk after three an half years what can Kenny and company ask for, still for him is business as usual and he and his Boys in 16 matches his Town has won fifteen matches.

An upcoming match against newly promoted UCD in the Semifinals of the FAI Cup, for sure Kenny would like to net a spot in the final of this event, looking forward to the double in this edition of the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.

As many ask themselves why Kenny is not celebrating yet are because of next week back to back matches in the SSE on Tuesday against Derry City and on Friday against UCD in the semifinals of the FAI Cup.

As anything can happen to the end of this agonizing campaign for both Dundalk and Cork City, in the end it is not over until it is over!
