A major upset highlights this weekend recap in the League of Ireland


This weekend in the League of Ireland saw a major upset when the surging Bohs delivered a blow to the league defending champions Cork City at home in Dalymont, putting the Leesiders title aspirations on the edge.

With just four matches in the weekend with Derry City, winning the EA Sports Cup over Cobh Ramblers and UCD making a return to Premiership this highlights a busy weekend of football in the Emerald Isle top two associations. 

In Tallaght Stadium, the Shamrock Rovers strikers had a field day against the Limerick Super Blues that in the end succumb to the push and game of the local Hoops not surrendering an inch in the race to seize the last European spot. 

With scores from Ronan Finn on the double 2’ and 60’, Greg Bolger 12’, Dylan Watts 20’ and Roberto Lopes 44’ to seal the deal and a win on what seemed to be a contested race for third place against Waterford.

Shamrock Rovers 5, Limerick 0

In RSC the local Waterford Boys continue on their chase to third place over the resurgent Shamrock Rovers who won their match in Dublin, however for Alan Reynolds side keeping a close chase on the Dubliners. 

These took advantage of a weak and relegation prone Bray Wanderers in town and falling to  the push of a determined Blues, as the game heroes were Sander Puri 38’ and Noel Hunt 72’ for the win. 

Waterford 2, Bray Wanderers 0

In Dalymont Stadium, the whole of Phibsborough celebrated loudly the achievement of their hot streaked Bohs and with a convincing upset over the league defending champions Cork City.

With an OG from City Damien Delaney the Gypsies went up the scoreboard early followed by Daniel Kelly 22’ and 30’ and Derek Pender 45’ and Leesiders  Graham Cummins 37’ and Jimmy Keohane 58’.

Bohemians 4, Cork City 2

In the Showgrounds the local Rovers could not took advantage of their condition of locals over the visiting Saint Patrick’s Athletic side, as Liam Buckley and company put a stop to the Bit O’ Red momentum.

For the Saints with Jake Keegan 30’ and Brendan Clarke 58’   and for the losing cause Michael Drennan 40’, the win gives the Pats a lead of three points in third place over their cross-town foes Bohs.
