A couple of draw
matches recently for the Reds drew certain ire from its followers, after this result
with a couple of clubs with poor performances this campaign.
The Liverpool Reds
really were not on the verge of a slump, still for many of its followers these
matches would be crucial if not key in the Reds aspirations for their league
title.
With tie matches with
a modest Leicester squad submerged in the league last positions and with a
modest Everton in the so called Merseyside Derby, was only a certain shift of
strategies or a cautionary way of playing.
Still the Liverpool
Reds this week with a crucial and important match with the London based giants
Tottenham Spurs; these matches have all the listing of a Derby- whenever these
two giants play one another.
Very well seeing how
the Reds and Spurs were playing an outstanding football and both coming from
winning streaks that was giving them an excellent position on the league table
and a spot in the European competitions.
Contested indeed, a
match that in its 90 plus minutes was very fought since the beginning till the
end and with both skippers looking to win not only three points but a certain
honor that these matches brings to them.
Mauricio Pochettino
considered a bright and spectacular Boss with his Hotspurs, many thought that
this match was going to be a draw or a one sided victory making the Spurs the
favorites by an edge.
Unfortunately the
visiting Lilywhites weren’t counting with a Reds squad that when they play putting
their hearts out and in front of their faithful they can perform miracles.
Playing against a
hardened squad in the Spurs, Liverpool’s Boss really played his cards very well
and like this was a very contested poker match, Brendan Rodgers edged the its
visiting foe with one goal in the scoreboard.
After the home squad
opened the hostilities in the 15’ minute by a shot by Serbian Lazar Markovic
that gave the Reds the edge momentarily, after the visiting Spurs via their top
rated striker Harry Kane in the 26’ suddenly tied the match.
Again the Reds went
ahead in the scoreboard after a penal scored via Steven Gerrard and all of a
sudden the house crumbled down with the equalizer via Moussa Dembele in the 61’
minute.
As many thought that
the match was going to end in a draw, surprise when Mario Balloteli saw the
opportunity and with assistance by Adam Lallana, the Italian finally delivered
to the joy of the Kop followers the game winning goal.
For Brendan Rodgers
this win was a shoot of optimism as well a way to see how did his investments during the summer, are adapting to his game
and delivering results little by little as well in the right time and match as
well!
For Liverpool the
road to the top isn’t an easy one, with fixtures against squads of the likes of
Man- City, Southampton, Man United and Arsenal.
Their faith lies in
these matches with victories that can shape the Anfield residents campaign in a
very spectacular way, if their players continue to deliver the way they did in
this match, this club will not walk alone towards the league shield.
