Exciting and too close in the NIFL with Reds and Bannsiders, in its recap


Coleraine and Cliftonville both sides won their matches and the Bannsiders still are atop the table in the Danske Banc Premiership by just a the point, with Linfield and Crusaders, close behind.

In other results, Larne deliver an upset over Ballymena United as a visitor, for other results with Warrenpoint Town and Institute sentencing their doom to relegation, here’s the rest of results.

In Mourneview Park the local Lurgan Blues could not take advantage of their condition of locals with a loss against the Reds of Cliftonville, keeping close tabs on the league leaders Coleraine. 

With Reds Joe Gormley opening the score early in the first half in the 3’ the home side even it up in the 21’ with Andy Hall to later set up to Rory Donelly in the 60’ to seal the win.

Glenavon 1-2 Cliftonville 

The Glens came to Milltown and claimed three important points over decimated Point, with a goal rout the visitors, Glentoran is moving up slowly in the table and within a point of fourth-place Linfield.

For the Glens getting a clean sheet and scores from Hrvoje Plum brace in the 31’ and 34’ followed by Robbie McDaid 44’ and to close the deal with Gavin Peers in the 8’ who started the goal-fest.

Warrenpoint Town 0-4 Glentoran 

Windsor Park saw its Blues win and keep on their aim to the top of the league with a clean sheet over visiting Carrick Ring with just two goals needed to seal the deal and moving slowly to top spots.

Scores from Andrew Waterworth 42’ in the first half and later Mark Stafford in the second half in the 58’ to continue their undefeated streak. 

Linfield 2-0 Carrick Ring 

In Stangmore Park the visiting Bannsiders got another important win that still puts in the top by a point lead over the Cliftonville Reds with a brace from Stephen Lowry.

With scores in the first and second halves, these goals were enough to seal the deal and a valuable win over the local Swifts in the 28’ and 59’.

Dungannon Swifts 0-2 Coleraine

The Crues and Stute shared the spoils in Seaview Park seeing hos its Hachetmen couldn’t seal the win along the three points and continue seeded in third place and be on the hunt.

The first goal came in the 38’ by Colm McLaughlin followed two minutes later by Jamie McGonigle in the 40’ to end even in the match. 

Crusaders 1-1 Institute

Ballymena United got upset at home by the Larne lads that deliver another clean sheet of this week activity in the NIFL, as the Sky Blues offensive the game completely shut down by the Reds.

In the Antrin County Derby, the Reds of Larne came ahead with a double from Lee Lynch in the 40’ and 55’ following an early score by a penalty kick by Jeff Hughes 5’.
