A determined Cumann
Peile Ruagairí Shligigh or
better known as the Sligo Rovers, who did the ultimate feat in assuring another
trophy for its halls at Showground’s Stadium.
The Bit o’ Red really came prepared and
determined to make the ultimate upset, coming as underdogs and at the end playing
as a top rated squad.
Being this their ultimate feat as well
showing off their efforts in the field, shutting down a belligerent and dynamic
Lilywhite attack.
That never ceased to provoke the Rovers
defensive side in the match first half and making its goalie a bit
uncomfortable, still the Bit o’ Red backfield, manage to conserve their lead
until the last whistle which marked the end.
Still the Rovers showed off a lot of ambition
as well a winning attitude in all of its plays, making the Dundalk Bhoys out of
touch throughout the whole match.
Under Ian Baraclough, the Sligo squad has
really looked very improved as well an entity not to be mess with, by playing a
bright football and fighting their way to the top of the league table.
Currently the Rovers are in a not so comfortable
position in the SSE Airticity League, still this campaign is just in its
preliminary stages, and the Bit o’ Red is looking forward for more glories.
By winning under the minimum difference over
an ambitious and hungry for glory Dundalk FC, the Sligo chaps really maintain
at bay their rival’s strikers throughout the whole match.
And with an early score in the 13th
minute by Paul O’ Conor, that early goal proved to be the only score the Rovers
needed to win this match.
Under a rainy Dublin afternoon at Tallaght
Stadium, that became witness of the Bit o’ Red coup of its FAI rivals
aspiration, by capturing their first Setanta Cup in their history.
In a match that proved crucial for both
squads looking for the win as well take home the always coveted and prestigious
Setanta Cup trophy.
At the end this match were the Cumann Peile Dhún Dealgan and Cumann
Peile Ruagairí Shligigh really
sowed their best in each one of their initial eleven’s as well a war of strategies
between these two clubs skippers in Dundalk Stephen Kenny and Sligo’s Ian Baraclough.
Its were the Sligo Rovers’ Boss accurately did the
necessary moves in his lineup to substitute an injured key player in Captain
Alan Keane and his substitution really paid well and delivered in the all the
ninety minutes of this match.
Congratulations Sligo Rovers for your
ultimate of achievements as well end your two year trophy drought; this win
will be an injection of optimism in the remainder of the SSE Airtricity League, very well a sqaud to watch.
