Supermen or super motivated
is what many ask themselves, after witnessing a squad so determined to make it
into the top spots in this edition of the World Cup.
Not only is earning respect,
but an all-around admiration from everyone in the soccer world, after
witnessing their resolve to climb into new heights.
Oh yes, the Super
Ticos, a name given to Costa Rican nationals, is what this tiny Centro American
nation is currently living in Brazil 2014.
With an ambitious Sele,
as many of its fans know it, this amazing national squad of Costa Rica’s top
notch players are giving their countrymen a piece of history in the making, as
well dreaming of a possible incursion among the top four finalists.
It is the first time
in this nations soccer history as well that a squad from CONCACAF that has made
it pass the round of 16.
As many know that in
this Confederation, the likes of Mexico or many know it as El Tri, being the top
gun for many years along of its dominance in the region.
And it was until their
eliminations round to select four spots for Brazil 2014, were the Mexicans
cluelessness and erratic playing, almost cost them a trip to Brazil courtesy of
la Sele and Los Yankees.
For Los Ticos
suddenly in the elimination rounds, they proved the opposite and gave Mexico a
lesson in football, showing off many years of preparation as well many of its
players playing abroad, that really have paid off for them.
Look at the results,
were many thought that La Sele seeded in Group D with the likes of England,
Italy and Uruguay; very well considered the ugly ducklings of the foursome.
Not even football
fans, Costa Rica played one on one with a heavily favored Uruguay for a 3-1 win
in their first match and then shutting off the Italians for a 1-0 score.
Convinced, certainly
you must be by now as I am, after seeing how a cautioned and conservative
English squad played them- this in their last match for a draw at zero goals.
As they pass to the
next round of 16 and facing another resurgent soccer power to be, Greece was
poised and convinced of winning their match with ease and advance to the next
rounds.
Again the resolve of
Manager Jorge Luis Pinto and his chaps, resolved their drive to win in a
penalty shootout won with a wonderful performance from its goalie and eliminate
the Greeks.
