A win that earned three valuable points against
a not so easy Chicago Red Stars squad- that lifted the Portland Thorns aspirations
once again to the NWSL postseason and league shield.
A very convincing and inspired afternoon for
the PTFC initial eleven, that showed off in each one of its players an inspired
match that showed off a squad with a championship mind that netted them their third
win in a row.
I mean this squad is for real and by playing
an inspired football thanks’ in part to a determined and hungry for wins Manager
Paul Riley- seeing his lassie’s playing a one of a kind football in all of
those ninety minutes and sending a message as this is the real deal!
The Thorns suddenly are looking like top notch
contenders and surely in the final phase of league play these girls definitively
would like to close down with a high note.
And although those ugly days when the Thorns
had a sort of slump, that is now buried in the past and now are looking forward
to their league future with the league shield in sight and minds.
After all the Portland Thorns contributed
with eight players to several squads’ in this editor of the Women’s World Cup
recently celebrated in Canada.
So far we are seeing an unstoppable Thorns
squad that didn’t let its beautiful Portland public down known to be in all of soccer
circles in MLS and NWSL as the tops for their raucous support and utmost loyalty
to their squads.
By witnessing a strong performance by Super
Allie Long who scored twice and sending Providence Park into a madhouse for
those 15,878 in attendance that never stopped their support and belief to their
beloved PTFC.
This win constitutes a short of optimism
and very well a certain motivation on the eve of their upcoming matches that the
PTFC will have to play like there’s no tomorrow as well move up in the overall
table.
So far this win gives the Thorn girls a
record of 6-6-4 and with 22 points in the table as well tied for fourth place with
four matches left and one more home stand that means very challenging weeks
ahead for these ladies.
That at the end nothing is impossible and difficult
if they keep their game and focus on winning as lately they had been doing it, and
still playing as a visiting squad hasn’t been a bit positive and will show certain
difficulties, these Thorns don’t run, they deliver.
