All the right moves paid off for Giovanni Savarese

Portland Timbers 3, NYCFC 0
Providence Park, Portland, Oregon

Once again, the comforts of home made a difference for the Portland Timbers. As the Rose City Boys delivered another amazing performance at home, crowning it with a one of a kind win.

With all the right and we can state bold moves. The first year man in the helm of the Portland squad, he is showing off why this squad became so interested in his services. This time by sporting a 4-4-1-1 formation, that sent a lone Diego Valeri and Fanendo Adi in the frontal attack. At the end, these moves paid off for Gio with a resounding 3-0 win over one of the league last undefeated squads.

With the NYCFC, coming to town with seventeen points and a record of five wins and a couple of tied matches in the campaign. The Boys from the Big Apple labeled as all around favorites, today these held scoreless by an inspired and determined Portland dynamic game both offensively and defensively.  The local Rose City squad is showing off in in every match the effects under their new manager. Today they put in evidence of how this team is adapting rapidly to the Venezuelan game style and his strategies.

Among one of the novelties in the Portland initial eleven was the return to the starting lineup of defender Liam Ridgewell and goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. The recipe for Portland success was the momentum these came with after last week first win of 2018. As the hard work put in by Gio in every training session and demands of his players, every week is showing off with notable results.

Today was one of those days when the Portland Boys in need of a win, they delivered an unforgettable afternoon to its fans in what became a one sided match for the locals. The Portland squad not only dominated the first half after going to halftime with a 2-0 lead. The second half many in a sold out Providence Park, thought that the New Yorkers were to come a bit stronger and displaying a pressure towards the local Timbers backfield.

This time we did not had a meltdown like in Chicago and Orlando as the Portland backfield held its ground and came ahead with another score by another of its defender in Larrys Mabiala. Very well seeing the levels of confidence in several Portland players’ shows the supporting role of Giovanni Savarese in all of them is delivering results as expected.

Despite this are just the Portland Timbers second win of the campaign and now showing off a record of (2, 3, 2, 8 points), still there is more work to do. At the end, this match showed off this club many improvements.

Goals: Sebastian Blanco 26, Fanendo Adi 38 and Larrys Mabiala 66
Assists: Andres Flores, Alvas Powell 26 and Diego Valeri 66
