Waterford rallied to deliver a total upset over Cork City

Waterford 2, Cork City 1
Regional Sports Center, Waterford

In the Regional Sports Center, the local Blues are one tough foe to mess with. Call it the home field advantage or this bunch is filled with a lot of confidence and hence their positive streak.

With a league match, played against the defending champions Cork City, the odds of netting a positive result were a bit pretentious for the newly promoted Blues, but nothing written until the end.

Still in a match were tempers flared and yellow and red cards hand out like candy, this is how the Munster Derby whenever these two tians face off and seen as a very controversial but one contested affair.

However three points of gold and on top of delivering an important as well valuable victory over a squad coming with all the label of all around favorites despite coming as a visiting entity, Alan Reynolds and company delivered in the clutch.

Netting three points of gold, as well helping the likes of Dundalk FC to climb to first place as Reynolds and company are within reach of the Lilywhites that edge them by an earlier win over them in the campaign.

Returning to this controversy filled match as the visiting Leesiders went up on the scoreboard with a free kick taken by Barry McNamee bouncing on Aaron Barry serving it on a golden tray for Conor McCarthy who pushed the ball to put City 1-0.

The visiting Rebel Army with just two minutes on the clock was in total control of this match to the dismay of many of Waterford faithful were seeing how their Blues possibly succumbing to the champions. As you recall the Blues lost earlier in the campaign at Turners Cross and John Caulfield bunch was heading to another easy win.
Despite the efforts performed by the locals, at the end the first half end with a one-goal lead by the visitors, the start of the second half promised to be an exciting one and to conclude it was!

Still do not call the local Blues quitters as these put on a fight and started a rally with a couple of scores that seal the deal. For Waterford in the 51 minute, Conor McCormack opened the scoreboard and tying the match, followed later in Courtney Duffus in the 80 minute.

All of a sudden on injury time is when hell broke loose in a match that ended with a record six red cards after a melee erupted in the field, when Bastien Hery pushing John Caulfield who enter the field to retrieve the game ball.

All of sudden we had both squads benches emptied and on the field pushing and shoving making the game officials important to both sides tempers flaring, without any doubt  the game official Robert Rogers started awarding red cards without any contemplations.

By sending off Waterford Bastien Hery the main culprit and his teammate, Stanley Aborah along with manager Alan Reynolds followed by Cork City manager John Caulfield, Steven Beattie and Garry Buckley. Both teams will have some major penaties imposed to them and missing their best players in the case of the Blues Hery and Aborah.
