Undoubtedly, these Timbers Have this Squad Number

It was Déjà vu all over again, with a repeat of last campaign final match between the Portland Timbers and the Columbus Crew; Major League Soccer by far made it as their stellar opener for their 2016 campaign.

By seeing these two titans once again in a field of play, for many the first thing that comes to mind is all about a rematch, especially for the visiting Crew who saw its fortunes dwindle at home by a hardened and inspired PTFC!

With both squads, having new dreams and goals to fulfill in a campaign that promises not only to be an all-around spectacle but one contested one.

Still this first ever match of the campaign, many preying eyes of soccer aficionados all across the Union were very attentive in its grand finale.

As the match started with an early dominance by the visiting Black and Gold, who became a bit persistent and dominating the match minute by minute, to see a series of glamorous performance by the Timbers goalie who once again had another glamorous performance.

Along with a well-credited and outstanding performance by an inspired Portland Timbers backfield, that came as determined as ever to make one annoying afternoon for the offensive attack of the Columbus Boys.

When the ball went to the side of the PTFC, things really began to create a series of attacks and near misses until that goal on the 23rd minute by Diego Valeri straight shoot that went untouched for the first score of the game.

Showing off a defensive stand by the local Timbers until the 68th minute and spectacular goal that caught everyone in the Rose City squad by surprise, if I meant a grand goal by the Crew Federico Higauin that left many in awe.

As in Europe or Latin-American fields they dubbed this kick as a Chilena, the bicycle maneuver went unnoticed by Timbers goalie Kwarsey and defenders Alva’s Powell and Nat Borcher’s who both couldn’t do anything too prevent the equalizer.

In addition, a score giving the visiting Crew some momentum, still the Timbers defensive core did the ultimate of efforts alongside a little luck to persevere at the end.

Something that for Manager Porter stubbornness in making things happened play after play, finally the decider came with a brilliant play via Dairon Aspirilla and with a pass that the Crew goalie touched and with a rebound that ended up in Fanendo Adi’s feet.

That turned up to be the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute and the Nigerian striker once again becoming the hero of the day.

Sending those 21,144 in attendance, that converted Providence Park into a mad house.

At the end, many will state how the mighty Portland Timbers have gotten this club number and in every one of their last three meetings, the PTFC win has been with the same score and players being in the spotlight, being that a coincidence.

The Portland Timbers is really looking forward to a very exciting campaign were their goal not only be to defend their hard fought title as well go for more trophies.
