Aim for the stars and
so far, Derry City has been putting a display of an excellent and renewed football,
after enjoying a one of a kind campaign, this club booked a ticket to one of Europe’s
utmost of events.
After putting of a
fight from a stubborn and insistent Shamrock Rovers, despite this occupying
third place with a slight lead over Derry City, a loss for these in the Dublin
Derby became the big break that the Candystripes needed.
Ironically, the Bohemians
became the heroes for many at Derry City and its followers, when the Bohemians
took care of the Hoops and today with a twist of fate and luck, Derry City made
a prey out of the visiting Gypsies.
With today’s match at
Brandywell, Manager Shiels and his squad had he doors open to deliver one of the
most amazing of feats to its numerous legions of followers with a resounding
win and delivering the satisfaction of experiencing the elimination process in the
next UEFA Europa League.
Still the match was
not a walk in the park for the Candystripes squad, as all of a sudden the Bohemians
eliminated from league and cup contention, these will be playing the role of
spoilers.
Leaving the Rovers
almost out of contention for the last European spot in the SSE Airtricity League
and with today’s match as an away squad, the Bohs wanted a continuance of their
mayhem.
Showing their mettle,
the Dubliners did not wasted their time in opening the score and silencing the whole
of Brandywell with an early goal to give this squad the lead via its prime striker
Kurtis Byrne doing the mischief.
No later the local’s insistence
and perseverance, it’s when the colossus at Brandywell came alive when its Boys
started generating several plays and being so close to the visitors goal posts
and on, still no cigar and the match at halftime favored the Dubliners.
No later when the
match started the pressure from the home, side became persistent once again and
in the 50th minute, it is when the match official awarded a penal
for the home side.
After an obvious play
when Gypsies Defender Derek Pender upheld Derek Jarvis in the area for the foul
and Derry’s penal king Aaron Mc Eneff put the equalizer in the net for the 1-1
score and netting his sixth goal in the campaign.
Despite Dean Delany
efforts to deny the Brandywell Boys many opportunities to see his posts beaten,
at the end it was the insistence of the locals never ceased to stop and the
rewards seen in an immediate way.
As Kenny Shiels on
the sideline pleading for his initial eleven to continue the pressure, it’s
when Derek Jarvis and Aaron Mc Eneff once again seeing their luck going for the
worst , as the visitors keeper Delany continue his mastery and amazing defending.
After him blocking Mc
Eneff and Jarvis shoots in the line, it is when an opportune Rory Patterson came
through and taking advantage of a loose ball, he just slid to push the ball
home in what became the game-winning goal of the match.
In addition, this win
assured the Candystripes a valuable win and the return of international
football from the UEFA Europa League to be return at the colossus located in
Brandywell and near the Foyle River in Derry City.
Of to Europe and hopefully
Kenny Shiels and his Derry City can make it into the difficult and coveted stage
group.
