As the Lilywhites
return to league action after suffering an upsetting defeat this weekend, the
heat was on for Stephen Kenny chaps, to get his squad back into the winning
column as well not surrender their overall lead.
After the loss to a
combatant Sligo Rovers on Saturday night, the County Louth squad seeing their
lead diminished to just a point and playing in today’s match against their one
and only foes of Cork City coming from an impressive win.
Everything was on the
line for both squads playing a match with all the essence of an all-around
final as well this match considered vital for both squad as the league shield
was on the line and the league still has five matches left.
The pros were all in
favor for the visiting Cork City squad, so far enjoying a hefty winning streak
and looking as contentious and ambitious as ever, the moment and opportunity arise
for this squad looking to get atop the league standings.
Still I would not
count the hardened and stubborn Lilywhites out that so far they are showing off
a certain boldness and momentum like no other and after making history in the
Europa League with their amazing participation.
I wonder how this
club can juggle League, FAI Cup and Europa League play all at once, with no
signs of fatigue or weariness but with plenty fighting spirit.
In today’s match were
it counted the most and everything would been served in a golden tray with a
win for the Leesiders, it’s when the Dundalk Boys put on a show and never
looked back in their quest of netting a one of a kind win over their arch-rivals.
Now they are on route
to their third consecutive shield and with today’s win at home in Oriel Park,
Stephen Kenny and his chaos can enjoy their four points lead and sort of
cushion ahead of their league compromises.
When the going gets
tough these Boys just fight their way into the league top and never surrenders
by any means, per their Manager Stephen Kenny.
A gala day at Oriel
Park, when the Republic of Ireland Boss Martin O’ Neill attended to observe
players from both squads and possibly some of these could make it into the list
of the man from North Ireland for his squad upcoming international bout.
One thing we saw in this
match, was how it was fought off by both titans in the field and every minute
from both halves was really taken advantage by both squads not surrendering the
ball and looking forward to win this match.
A much-contested
match was in the books, seeing how an inspired Darryl Horgan dispatched himself
with a double to lift his squad to the win as well putting a certain cushion of
four points over their closest foe Cork City.
Still the league is
not over and the Leesiders Boss John Caulfield attitude is just to win and seek
the opportune moment once again to try to make his move and put his Boys in the
league top.
At the end, there is
a party in Dundalk and the airs of another shield are felt in the air by its
numerous legion of followers who have seen it all with their squad marvelous
and one of a kind playing in the past years.
A win allows this
squad to seat comfortably in first place with 65 points and a league game
pending this Friday night at Tallaght to meet the always dangerous and hardened
Shamrock Rovers these looking to assure them the last European spot.
At the end, this win
becomes a confidence booster for the Lilywhites and gives them some breathing
room ahead for their next league match and upcoming international one at Russia,
still this club has a lot of spirit and stamina left.
This campaign can see
a double in shields for the Dundalk fc squad looking to net its third consecutive
league shield and possibly they can do the feat in the FAI Cup, as they say the
third time is the charm.
