Finally, the Louth
County Boys can raise their arms in joy after netting their third consecutive SSE
Airtricity League of Ireland Shield, very well raising their number of league
shields to twelve in their history.
As the Lilywhites
having one of their busiest of weeks and since netting their pass into the
always prestigious and contested UEFA Europa League, this squad has been
playing a non-stop football.
With a busy week and playing
on Monday night against Longford Town, following an international play in Dublin
Town against Zenit- St Petersburg, this scheduled on Thursday and later returning
to action on Sunday against the Bohemians at home.
The prospects of
delivering to their fans was immense, after all for this match Manager Kenny
did the necessary moves, by substituting Gabriel Savas, Robbie Benson and Sean
Gannon with Gary Rogers, Alan Keane and John
Mountney.
As the great Stephen Kenny,
making once again history with this squad and putting it among the elite of
Irish Football, so far the men has made this squad into an all-around contender
and recognized in the international levels, capturing many headlines.
Very well putting his
club among the most exclusive of companies as the ones that have netted the
league shield three times, joining the club of the likes of Waterford, Cork
City and the Shamrock Rovers.
However, this squad
is not done with its league compromises, and despite winning the league shield
and left to play two more matches in the domestic league.
For Stephen Kenny its
business as usual and traveling to Richmond Park to face off against the Saint Patrick
Athletic squad and closing at home in Oriel Park against Galway United to bring
down the curtain in what seemed to be a banner of a campaign.
Still with international
matches left to play, at least the Lilywhite can get some much-needed rest as
their European Cup compromises as November will be a very busy month for the
Louth Boys.
Besides their international
play, these have a very heated compromise in the FAI Cup scheduled on November 6th
in what seems to be their eternal league rivals in Cork City playing this tournament
final and with the essence of a rematch for the Leesiders.
Undoubtedly, one match
to play in the colossus of Dublin, Aviva Stadium with all the elements of a super
final between these two squads and the Lilywhites looking forward to earn their
second shield of the campaign at the expense of the Rebel Army.
Returning to the match against those hardened Gypsies, the afternoon
was to belong to the home squad, event thought the visitors started their usual
trouble, which at the end the Oriel Boys prevailed with style.
This match did not come easy for the Lilywhites, even though they had
the upper hand playing as local and with an early goal from Andrew Boyle the
locals were up in the 15th minute, sending a sold out Oriel Park into
frenzy.
The buck did not stop there for the Bohemians, doing the ultimate of mischiefs
when former Lilywhite Mark Quigley via a penal scored the equalizer on the 29th
minute, putting the match even at halftime.
Still do not count those hard fighting and resilient Lilywhites out of
the picture, with several attempts and always using their one of a kind
techniques, these managed to get the go ahead and winning goal on the 63rd
minute via Brian Garland for the raucous win.
At the end Dundalk win captured the attention of many as well netting
many congratulatory notes from many in the Emerald Island and its Honorable President
Michael D. Higgins, sending his warm congratulations to the back-to-back
champions.
