Linfield return to the top highlights a contested NIFL recap


One amazing contest is what the Danske Bank Premiership is turning and with a heated race to the league top, the return of one of its most decorated squads in the Blues of Linfield making it with a rout. 

A return to Brandywell marked a historic return for the Belfast Boys after 50 years, with this win Linfield is at the top with 34 points followed by Glenavon 32 points, alongside Ballymena United 30 points and Crusaders 28. 

As the defending champions are making a comeback but with a stiff competition from the Lurgan Blues, Sky Blues adding to the blues sudden revival, in the end let us brace for an all-around contest. 

In the Showground’s the local Sky Blues of Ballymena United hosted the Reds of Cliftonville looking forward to add points and make its move towards the league top but these were meet by a determined Ballymena United.

With scores from Cathair Friel in the 48’ and later by Steven McCullough 77’, the Sky Blues and Reds staged a very exciting second half, despite of a late goal Conor McDonald in the 83’ made it into a contest, but time caught the visitors. 

Ballymena United 2, Cliftonville 1

With a match in Coleraine Showgrounds the local Bannsiders and the visiting Glens played to a stalemate and a share of the spoils with a draw at one goal apiece and the locals surviving with ten men. 

Something not taken advantage by the visiting Glens that in the end this result became a frustrating one, after taking the lead via a goal from  Robbie McDaid 25’ and the locals eqaulzing with Darren McAuley 52’.

Coleraine 1, Glentoran 1

In Milltown the home grounds of the Point Boys, these played hosts to a streaked Dungannon looking forward to add points and move up the table as far away from the always-infamous relegations spots.

The Swifts via John Lafferty opening the score in the 31’ minute no later than three mintues passed by when the locals via lan O’ Sullivan equal the score until the edn of the match and sharing the spoils in the end. 

Warrenpoint Town FC 1, Dungannon 1

At Newry’s colossus, the Showgrounds the local City Boys earned a valuable victory over the visiting and troubled Ards looking forward to start making a sort of revival but instead saw their luck going down.

For Newry City in command of the actions and scores from Mark Hughes, 75’ and three minutes later John Boyle 78’ sentenced the match for City and helping their cause.

Back in Belfast the local Crusaders with a rout over the visiting Lurgan Blues in town, looking to hold their spot in the league top, in the end were no match to determined Hachetmen that deliver in their quest to defend their hard fought league title. 

Paul Heatley opened the score for the locals in the 10’ minute and later followed by a double from Jordan Owens 18’ and 79’ to seal the deal ans start what looks a comeback for the Crusaders and trailing Linfield by six points. 

Crusaders 3, Glenavon 0

Fifty years passed by for Linfield for a return Brandywell to face off against Institute and with a goal fest from the visiting Blues, that in spite of the Stute opening the score in the 13’ minute via Michael McCrudden. 

This score did not held the Blues as these put in display their ambitious plan to return to the league top with goals from Niall Quinn 27’, Kirk Millar 66’ and a double from Andrew Waterworth 57’ and 86’.
