Recap of the League of Ireland with Cork City returning to the top


With the Lilywhites of Dundalk to play the second leg in Cyprus and pending a couple of league matches. For the lads of Cork City these did not waste the opportunity to deliver a win away in RSC in Waterford. 

As the Blues after a stellar and spectacular run in the early months of league play, suddenly for Alan Reynolds and company his ship looks like its stalled and seeing a slump and lack of wins that is exposing their third place spot to a resurgent Shamrock Rovers squad. 

For the defending champions Cork City paying a visit at the Regional Sports Centre to a slumping Waterford, the outcome went in favor of the visiting City Boys delivering a one of a kind performance against the home side. 

With an early goal from the Blues Noel Hunt 31’ the locals had the lead momentarily as a minute later the Rebel Army via Garry Buckley 32’ and Graham Cummins to seal the deal in the 53’  for the win and yellow colored night for the locals with a whooping five cards.

In Brandywell the local Derry City Boys are after taking an early lead to a goal from Jamie-Dean McDonaugh in the 35’ minute looking to cruise to an easy win over the visiting Sligo Rovers.

Not until the second half when the Bit O’ Red came cruising back for the win with two second half goals from David Cawley 70’ and Caolan McAleer 79’ for the win and move up the table in their quest for their salvation.

It happened in Inchicore at its colossus Richmond Park as the hardened and obstinate Saints looking forward to renew their fight for the construction of their new state of the art stadium pending.

So far, the local Saint Patrick’s Athletic delivered a brutal blow and a clean sheet to a decimated Bray Wanderers, with scores from Ryan Brennan 32’, Ian Turner 55’ and Graham Kelly 87’.

While in Dalymont in the northernmost part of Dublin Town, the local Bohs delivered mayhem over a troubled and surprised Limerick FC coming to town looking to for the spoils. 

For the locals Gypsies scorers were Kevin Devaney 28’, Jonathan Lunney 41’, Keith Buckley 67’, Daniel Grant 73’ and Eoghan Stokes 86’ contributed for the Dubliners to score an important win in the weekend.

Bohemians 5, Limerick 0

To close this chapter the sad new for the Town Boys losing to a whopping 4-0 at against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus puts an end to Dundalk European dream and now focus on league play trailing Cork City by two points.
