Republic of Ireland 0, Denmark 0
Aviva Stadium, Dublin
Focusing on the
Welsh, as a stoic Martin O’ Neill stated after netting in what seemed to be a
valuable result against the Danish with a draw and delivering a lone point in
the Nations Cup, as many state optimism in the Green Army has return.
However, this draw is
just a mirage of the problems the Republic of Ireland has ahead, including how
to better their offensive attack lacking a finishing touch as well not
delivering a more exciting and spectacular game in the end.
As only three shoots
performed by the Republic of Ireland, two off target but one that made many in
the colossus of Landsdowne Road lived the intensity of a shoot delivered by
Cyrus Christie in the 71’ but well read by Denmark goalie Kasper Schmeichel.
Still his side saw an
improvement in its defensive game that shined all evening long despite the
Danes pressure and dominance in the match with a 61% possession and 12 shoots at
goal performed by these hardened visitors along with three shots blocked.
Hail to Darren
Randolph the Green Army keeper along his entourage with Matthew Doherty, Cyrus
Christie, Shane Duffy and Callum O’ Dowda delivering on their best efforts to
preserve the clean sheet and net an important point at home.
Promising yes, you
may state, but the time to put aside some of these experimentations should end
and for manager Martin O’ Neill knowing his business to institute and produce a
more efficient game is necessary.
The need to try other
formations can be another plus and gamble for O’ Neill with a more offensive
ones like a 4-2-3-1 and be more inclining to pressure the opposing posts, as possession
of the ball will be the elements that will give this squad a boost in its game.
As in the end the
likes of Aiden O’ Brien and Callum Robinson accompanied by a grand performance
by Cyrus Christie and Darren Randolph that were the game highlights along with
the rest of the team that did its job but found themselves against a brick
wall.
In addition, of
seeing the Danes becoming more dominant in the second half is when there should
be a plan B to contain the opposition, but regardless of the revival staged by
the Danes our defensive game came up high and our midfield delivering.
As manager O Neill is betting on youth with Matthew
Doherty doing a fine job on defense, still the need to see more of Sean
Maguire, Scott Horgan, Ronan Curtis, Callum Robinson and Graham Burke should
get more minutes in the field.
This should be a
solution to the striker problem as well a comfortable formation in the midfield
were at time the Green Army looked a bit lost but overcome the Danes push and delivered
but a 4-4-2 or as mentioned before 4-3-2-1 can delivered that impasse in
midfield.
In spite of seeing a threesome
in the midfield by Harry Arter, Callum O’ Dowda and Cyrus Christie can make up
one day along with Darryl Horgan or new blood that can get familiar with the man
of the North system and get their feet wet in the international theaters.
With work to done
nothing is negative at the contrary the performance displayed in Aviva, despite
its future looking very encouraging and
work to apply to perfect his side for the better, in the end results will speak
aloud for the Foireann
peile náisiúnta Phoblacht na hÉireann.
