The Portland Timbers finally broke their road blues at Rio Tinto

Real Salt Lake 1, Portland Timbers 4
Rio Tinto Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah

Coming to Rio Tinto Stadium, the Portland Timbers were in need of a win. Nothing comes easy or in a golden tray for the Rose City squad. However, this Portland squad is not a quitter and committed to netting an important result on the road. For more difficult it looked this was not to be an impossible task or feat.

Coming to Sandy, Utah, the Portland Timbers last win away was back in June 30. Unfortunately, for the Portland squad in July, August and September, their away record became horrendous. As the task of netting, a win in this difficult venue was beyond these struggling Timbers. After all Real Salt Lake before this match posted a perfect and unbeatable record at home.

Before this match with Giovanni Savarese stated that, his team was in need of displaying a more mature football and with plenty of commitment. Believe these Timbers delivered a one of a kind match since the beginning.

As Gio made all the right moves and sent a familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. That in the end worked wonders and delivered a valuable win on the road. After all, with an impressive performance in both halves, the first was the difference maker for the visiting Portlanders.

Yet the first half was to make a world of difference and in favor for Portland. One by displaying back to back matches with an all-around defensive display. As this area is seeing an improvement and this will make a world of difference for them come the postseason.

As for Gio seeing his goals met before this match, was somehow a total progress. By holding off the Claret and Cobalt, offensive might in the course of the completely the initial half. By just allowing them, on target shoots with none on target and four off it.

Despite the stalemate early of the match, suddenly Sebastian Blanco connected with Jeremy Ebobisse for the Timbers first goal in the 33’. That one two combination with Blanco in the starting eleven suddenly raised the bar in Portland offensive game. Ask that to an inspired and amazingly opportune Jeremy Ebobisse scoring his second goal of the campaign.

Still for Gio Savarese aware of the reaction to come in the second half, his Boys were ready. With Real Salt Lake coming strong and pressuring early, it was in the 55’ minute when these equalized the match. With another bad call against Portland, this corner became into the equalizing goal for RSL in the 55’ minute.

The Seba show was to follw up this setback. As this little giant, Sebastian Blanco started delivering in the clutch with a notable performance. Two goals and assistance, the man was possessed! As in the 70’ minute with a beauty of a shoot put the Timbers ahead and later with Jebo and Diego Valeri scored his second of the night.

No later, the moves made by Gio came strong and todays this squad played a formidable game of football. As these Portland Timbers executed excellent teamwork, discipline and execution that made a formidable difference in the end.

For the Portland Timbers next match agasint Real Salt Lake scheduled on October 21. this will give the Rose City squad a much needed rest to recharge its batteries and return home for action against the Claret and Cobalt. A win  or draw for Portland can clinch a spot in the postseason.

if Portland continues to display consistency in its game as the way they performed today. I do not doubt of Portland going all the way to the league grand finale, teamwork and untiy made a whole world of difference today for these hardened PTFC.
