A glorious return to
big tournament finals and winning its first piece of silverware after a three-year
drought, on an afternoon filled with a determined United looking to recover its
long lost prestige. After seeing their legendary
and successful man at the helm of Manchester United calling it quits.
Old Trafford was never the same after the retirement of Fergie from the
Red Devils helm, with an unsuccessful Moyes parting ways and not finishing his
tenure and with a Louis Van Gaal suddenly delivering. After his two-year stint
in the Theater of Dreams, the airs of change seen in this squad for the best.
Still with United Tuesdays night match being their last of this
campaign- that saw many of it’s rocky episodes in Champions and UEFA embarrassing
loss to an inferior club and losing important matches that costed them the Champions
spot. As the thousand United faithful booing the Dutch, at the end this is an episode
buried in the past and now looking ahead to deliver results.
It has been a while
that the Red Devils of Manchester United lifted a major competitor trophy, alone
of being in one of these situations ever since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson at
the helm of this club.
So far, the United
lads saw a glimpse of opportunity in their quest of netting a final and they delivered
a date with destiny at Wembley to play against a hungry Alan Pardew and his Crystal
Palace high flying Eagles. Seen as a leveled match with no advantages for no one
as both squads a bit leveled and many gave a slight advantage to United.
This match could been
given to any side as they state there’s no such thing than an easy foe, it was
for both Managers an all-around challenge to deliver this precious shield to the
halls of their stadiums halls as well the ultimate of glories.
For the Red Devils
with eleven cups won and seeking their twelve and for the Glaziers seeking a
first in their second date in this prestigious event , both squads looking for
a piece of FA glory was among their immediate of goals.
As they state of
Wembley as the cathedral of football, today’s match exposed both squads
ultimate of game and dynamics from both of their defensive and offensive strategies
and putting a high show for both squad’s goalies. When De Gea was making and spectacular
saves for United, then came CPFC keeper Wayne Hennessey one of a kind performances
that could netted him the most valuable player award.
One major highlight
in this match was the fans that saw a magnificent game making them the ultimate
winners. Witnessing how both of these titans really went at it and fighting
every ball and creating dangerous plays in every minute of this fought off
match.
Both squads were
lucky to hold off each other’s get up and go drives, still as mentioned before
the credit given to the keepers by saving the day and sheer luck after both near
misses, making this match to prevail until the 80th minute.
This is when the
Glaziers made their move and with a beautiful goal from Jason Puncheon who substituted
low key Yohan Cabaye, by contributing for their lone score and sending off many
CPFC fans into a frenzy and within a few minutes of almost netting the FA Cup.
Do not count the Manu
Boys out as immediate the presence of Captain Wayne Rooney was felt from
midfield by evading Palaces defenders one by one until his arrival in the zone.
With one play created by Rooney persistence and technique, showing off his all-around
class and an accurate pass bouncing on Fellaini chest and getting into Mata feet
to push the ball and even the scores at one goal each.
The game went on and
with both squads’ looking to capitalize on one another, the clock ran out of
time and the game came to an end- to send it into extra time. Making key moves by
both managers to try to get the goal and prevent a PK situation.
With a Manu play and opportune
bounce after volley that landed in Jesse Lingard feet to push in a spectacular manner
for the what became the go ahead goal and game winner after the official blew
the end and United’s celebrations became evident.
