Friday Night Soccer: DC United vs NY Red Bulls

Major League Soccer especial edition of Friday Night Soccer, headlined this week two bitter rivals and squads, that have given the Atlantic Cup a new meaning of competition in league play. With DC United, hosting the New York Red Bulls, everyone knows how contested and fireworks filled these Derbies can be between these two titans.

As RFK Stadium is living its last campaign with DC United, after this pioneer or the so-called originals of MLS, soon is to have its own venue. Still the nation’s capital Boys were to host their first match of the so-called Atlantic Cup this 2016.

For the visiting New York Red Bulls and Boss Jesse Marsch it was necessary to net a win and three points that could become golden and make a move above the Eastern Conference red line to try  and catch up on their DCU adversaries.

With a formation sent by the Big Apple chaps Boss of 4-5-1, sending Bradley Wright – Philips as a lone striker in his efforts of trying to destabilize the DC backfield and promote a more aggressive and tactical game.

For the DC United Boys Manager Ben Olsen with a 4-4-2 formation and sending two strikers to add more offensive splash with Alvaro Saborio and Luciano Acosta to make the whole ninety minutes of play- hell to Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles.

Not only keeper Robles saw red all match long, but his defense too that in both scores by the DCU they were caught sleeping and off guard to allow two goals, one in the 20th minute from a play originated with Patrick Nyarko to Marcelo Sarvas serving Alvaro Saborio for the score.

Leading 1-0 the home team, the visiting Red Bulls tried their best to penetrate the posts defended heroically all evening long by Travis Warra who stopped five almost shots on goal along with his defensive backfield.

The second goal came from another excellent play fabricated by the DCU midfield with Lamar Neagle and Alvaro Saborio contributing to Patrick Nyarko, who scores the go ahead and winning goal in a 2-0 rout over their archrivals NYRB.

Despite the win by the DC, the overall stats of this match gives and edge to the visiting Red Bulls in a total dominance of the match, at the end, their luck was not present and the results speak for themselves. Very well seeing very mediocre results and playing a not so bright football that almost netted them a spot in the final and a top rated shield.

For Manager Jesse Marsch its time to see how he can turn things around at Red Bull Arena and try his best to work on a miracle that at the end equals of salvaging his squad campaign and move up the red line in the Eastern Conference.

On DC United side, manager Ben Olson has a diamond in the rough in is initial eleven that needs to improve more and more in its offense as well defense, still this squad backfield really worked wonders all night long. Ask that to an inspired and spectacular DCU goalie Travis Warra who stopped the red Bulls offense cold in its tracks, although their insistence to score.

Next week the DC United goes to Philadelphia and play against a revived Union on another Friday night match and for the Red Bulls will host on Wednesday night the Chicago Fire.
