For Ronnie Koeman and
his Southampton Saints, after having a field day as a visiting entity at White
Hart Lane, showing off an ambitious football. By demonstrating how can they be an overall
contender going into next campaign and considered as a hard foe to play.
After a meritorious
win over the resurgent and hardened Spurs of Mauricio Pochettino, the man
responsible during his years at St. Mary’s of shaping this club into a fighting
entity. Now he saw the fruits of his labor haunting him back and netting him a hurtful
loss from his former squad.
As previously
written, calling the Saints squad as the House that Pochettino built, since
then this squad has been playing a very spectacular and ambitious football.
With a continuance of the work performed by the Argentinian, the arrival of
Ronnie Koeman at the helm of this club has been a carbon copy of his project.
Still the techniques
and style that Koeman has applied since his arrival to Saint Mary’s, have been
very fruitful and seeing a contentious squad, despite the exodus of many key players
to other clubs.
This squad is one
hardened and tough to play against as well seen as one of having the best
academies in Premiership circles.
With this match
coming after a very tense draw at Stamford Bridge last week, the Spurs so far
are showing signs of fatigue mentally and physically, after their illustrious
performances that almost netted them the league shield.
This match was as important
for both squads, with the Spurs looking ahead to finish their campaign in sole
possession of second place well above their cross-town rivals the Arsenal
Gunners. For the
Southampton Saints their goal is to end with a win and finish among the top six
squads, that could assure them a European spot.
Going to the match
celebrated at the Colossus of North London, White Hart Lane the home of the
Lilywhites, as mentioned above the physical wear from the Londoners is very
evident and with their results lately in their last five matches with just two
wins and three draws.
Coming into this
match as overall favorites and with the home advantage, suddenly things turned
for the worst and at the end, they paid off a heavy burden with his defense
faltering and seeing a possessed Stephen Davis netting a double.
Although the Spurs
jumped in an early lead with a Heung Min So goal, taking with him the whole of
Southampton defensive core and its goalie- to beat him for the early score. At
the end that was not sufficient to keep the Saints at bay and these considered
as a fighting and persistent all afternoon long, silencing the Spurs faithful.
For the Saints this
win was an overall achievement by a squad considered as the so-called small
entities but with a drive to excel and overcome the odds and playing
magnificently the role of all around spoilers.
Indeed, this match
was a march for the Saints and considered as a spectacular win in this
campaign, returning the favor to the Spurs on their earlier contest and now
with one match left against Crystal Palace at home.
Sealing with a win
another milestone with a sixth place finish one above last campaign and seeing
how this club is becoming a giant among Premiership ranks rapidly, well-done
marching Saints.
