Never underestimate your
competition, as Pat Fenlon and his Shamrock Rovers saw how a small entity labeled
as an underdog could turn things around for the worst. As first year Wexford Youths since their promotion
from First Division, suddenly they embarked on a high note in the big tent.
With a notorious win at
home in Ferrycarrig Park over a dumbfounded Shamrock Rovers squad who couldn’t find
its game all afternoon long and seeing an inspired home squad. Controlling the
whole match with an all-around authority.
So far, the Warriors
are playing a one of a kind football and with today’s win, they are enjoying a
two game winning streak, after last week win over Longford Town being one of their victims.
With Manager Shane
Keegan seeing how this chaps are finally getting the groove of the big league
and playing with more confidence as the one saw today at Wexford against
Airtricity giants the Hoops.
Wexford Youths really
are looking a bit more competitive and getting their game on track for their upcoming
compromises in league play. As well its internal competitions, maybe with a
little luck they can deliver a shield or two.
Getting back to the match
as many saw a dominant visitor’s squad trying its best to put the ball into the
posts defended by Youths goalie Graham Doyle who saw later in this match his
fortunes upgraded for the best.
The afternoon was for
two of the locals players contributing to the win with a couple of scores that
sealed their deal with scores from Andy Mulligan and Chris Kenny. These two
lifted their squad to a sound and convincing win over a favorite and hardened
Hoops squad.
Despite the Shamrock
blokes pressing all afternoon long, it was a top of the line show of force and
determination by the Youths backfield, which rose to the occasion to help their
squad deliver one joyous match to their faithful.
Today was a match
were the Boys of Pat Fenlon were their luck ran out and with every efforts they
tried, going in vain after a close shoot in the 57th minute, by a
close shoot by Killian Brennan that only added more misery to the Hoops.
This time the small fish
ate the big one, with a very inspired Warrior squad, having a good time in the field
and seeing the way this initial eleven went to the extremes and not allowed any
liberties to a top rated rival, that at the end succumb to their push.
At the end, Pat
Fenlon did have the message and realized that there is no such thing than an
easy foe, as their rival in the Wexford Boys did the ultimate heroics and silenced
a squad known of its offensive might and spectacular game. a job well done by
the Youths and Manager Keegan who really had his strategies in place and his
Boys performed wonders for the win and ascent in the table.
