What a match between
two undefeated squads and to be the highlight of week three in Major League
Soccer- as its main event, between the Portland Timbers and Houston Dynamo.
With a match-up
between two squads sporting a perfect 2-0 record and looking, forward for a
continuance of their good fortunes and continue being in the plus side.
The Lone Star State
Boys were ready to silence all of Providence Park with an upset and looking
forward to obtain their first win of the campaign on the road.
As the Dynamo, wins
both came at home.
The new Houston squad
by missing three consecutive campaigns their participation in the league
postseason, being this was a cause for its front office in making a total
overhaul and reinforcing it.
On the other hand,
the Rose City Boys during midweek the outcome of some of its starters was a bit
bleak with several of them showing some injuries and being on a day-to-day
basis.
Still for the
Cheesmaster Caleb porter and his moves, so far in the campaign have worked
wonders, as Marco Farfan out of the lineup with a stomach flu, Liam Ridgewell-
foot sprain and Vytas Andreskevicious- calf strain out of the lineup too.
Caleb Porter gave the
nod to Zarek Valentin in the left side and with Jake Gleeson and David Guzman
in the lineups, a sigh of relief for the Portland squad ahead of this important
match.
After all the
arrivals of David Guzman and Sebastian Blanco to the eleven of the Timber’s,
has injected a new dynamic in their game and looking like a new squad composed
and with plenty of confidence in its game.
For the Portland,
squad in the early minutes immediately started imposing its authority and
dominance in the field with a couple of arrivals that got their followers in
the edge of their seats.
As the first score in
the game came with a call, the referee awarded a penal in favor of the locals
when the ball hit in the back of the elbow of Da Marcus Beadsley and despite
the protests of him and the Dynamo players.
The play stood and
the scenario set for the captain Diego Valeri to take the shoot.
The Portland Timbers
opened the score on a nicely executed penalty kick with a shoot impossible for
the Houston keeper to stop it courtesy of El jefe Diego Valeri in the eleventh
minute and to the joy of the sellout crowd.
Still the way Houston
was playing this match, with intelligence and persistence, it is when a free
kick outside the area awarded to the visitors.
It is when the
Timbers number was call with a doubtful handball inside the area, the referee
controversial call became the center of many objections, and the visiting
Houston through Erik Torres scored the equalizer.
However, the Timbers
started, putting in display their offense but a well-planned and set Houston
press in the midfield did not allowed the local squad any liberties and in
injury time the visitors counter allowed the visitors to go at halftime with a
goal lead.
With a second, half
under way, the Timbers troubles continued, but their will and fight did not
stop them in seeking the equalizer, and it is when Diego Valeri once again made
his presence felt once again.
After a nice center placed by Zarek Valentin
he just push the ball for the equalizer and send the whole of Providence into a
frenzy, with just 58minutes in the clock but it’s when David Guzman made his
mark as a striker with the go ahead goal in the 66th.
In addition, to close
in a higher note, Adi made his presence felt in the 88 minute, scoring the game
winner and the security goal.
Suddenly the PTFC
starting mastering the Houston squad in the second half and despite the visitors
moves with three new set of legs, their rally fell short as these could not generated
anything dangerous.
This win puts the
Timbers record at 3-0 and with a match away at Columbus, if another win in the
road happens, this can be a perfect start and giving its followers a reason to
start thinking of its Timbers wining the league.
