This squad is for real
and looking forward to continue making history after a prominent presentation
in the past Euros and now looking forward to net its ticket to the grand fete
of football, the World Cup.
Its Russia or bust
for the Boys of the Norn Iron!
Still there is a
series of matches pending in Group C with a couple of squad’s in the Czech Republic
and a surprising Azerbaijan-this duo playing a more than fair football and the
North Irelanders are aware of their damaging qualities.
So far, the Green and
White Army seeded in second place tied in points with Azerbaijan but a goal differential
separates them and the Northern Boys within five points from group leaders
Germany.
For Michael O’ Neill
squad their businesses as usual and looking forward to a playoff spot, even though
they finish at the end in second place and with an advantage of the always-dangerous
Czechs.
By the way, North
Ireland played today as a local and with such passion and desire to overcome
the odds and seeking a spot to the next phase, that the Norwegian National
squad was no match for the fury displayed by the locals.
Despite the Nordic
squad sporting a new man at its helm in Sweden Lars Lagerbäck, the architect of
the past Euros Iceland fairy tale and miraculous run, the Norn Iron was not to
give an inch and did not care of who lead this squad or felt intimidated.
As the crowd, raucous
support was one way to energize this squad and motivated those to the
unthinkable of netting a one of a kind win over what seems to be a new renewed
Norway that ended up bullied by the locals.
A proof of that fury
from the Boys from Windsor Park was the total domination of the first 45
minutes of this match by O’ Neill 11 that displayed an all-around resolution of
a winner and came with the best part and three points of gold.
Nothing is free and
for the Boys from the North their dynamic duo of Jamie Ward and Connor
Washington who spearheaded the attack and contributed to this squad notorious
win at the end.
With ninety seconds and
in the 33rd minute, the goals that seal the fate of the Green and
White Army and maintain this squad on the chase and with the Norwegians counter
attacks in approaches to the posts of Norwich City Michael Mc Govern.
The way Manager O’
Neill set up his initial eleven was with five defenders in three Albion Boys in
Gareth Mc Auley, Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt placed as defensive midfield and
with Fleetwood Conor Mc Laughlin.
A foursome in the
midfield in Captain Stephen Davis, Oliver Norwood, Jamie Ward, Stuart Dallas
supporting a lone Connor Washington in the front attack, the 5-4-1 formation
sent by Northern Boss did function as expected.
The next match is against
a renewed and resilient Azerbaijani squad in Baku, scheduled on June 10 and
with the tone of an all-around final between these two squad’s looking forward
to a win.
