So far starting with
a perfect 2-0 record and a win on the road a campaign later, the Portland
Timbers squad is playing like an all-around contender and looking forward to establish
itself in the top.
Showing off an
amazing and perfect start in this novel campaign, the new PTFC is looking like
a well-oiled machine, starting its course.
Nothing like their
first match of the campaign, staging a rout over newcomer Minnesota, the likes
of last week and today, was very different and playing a hardened Galaxy squad
at home in Carson, California.
Somehow, the
enterprise of playing the American version of the Galactic’s is one impossible feat.
However, coming to difficult
Stub Hub Center, they knew of their past meetings and this time, Caleb Porter
and company were riding high after their first compromise positive result and ready
for it.
After the successful start
of the campaign at home, the prospects of playing in the road once again filled
the minds of many of the Timbers followers in a total state of alarm, with a
negative series of results in the road in 2016.
With a preseason behind, a dynamic and bold front office assembling a competitor, still the specter of
injuries already making their way to notable players, from its defensive core.
That became a cause for
concern but not for long, as Manager Caleb Porter knows his business and challenges
like this are one of his everyday nourishment's.
As the absences of
Alvas Powell, Liam Ridgewell and Vytas Andreskevivous, as Manager Porter stated
in midweek, that the players injuries were not serious but the possibilities of
being in the initial eleven were doubtful.
By getting an ace
under his sleeve and in this game, if you don’t risk you cannot find out the
potential that you have in your bench, Manager Porter already had in his mind
the likes of its youngest defender in homegrown Marco Farfan and newly arrived
Roy Miller.
Combining experience
and youth, the Cheesmaster got the news that Powell was to start and voila, the
problem solved, still the outlook of seeing in experienced Roy Miller coming
from a long trip after his former squad disappointing elimination from CCL.
Very well ready to shine and take on his
Boss opportunity in Marco Farfan that his debut became a headliner as the first
ever-youngest player ever to make his start in the backfield.
One thing to remember
that for this campaign the Portland Timbers think tanks were hard at work and assemble
a one of a kind squad to front in what seems a contested campaign and the hardiness
of its competitors.
Rock solid is the way
I can describe this Portland Timbers squad, as not only Diego Valeri and
Faneando Adi are not the only ones to score, as in today’s match Diego Chara
became the hero of the match with his lone score in the eight minute for the
only score of the match.
As the match took a turn for the Angelinos in
the second half, the perseverance of the visitor’s backfield exposed the hunger
of two of its members looking forward to many memorable afternoons in Porters initial
eleven.
Ninety minutes for this
High School Senior that has not celebrated his prom or graduation, but already
did his professional one, taking in whole the opportunity given to him,
delivering with style, and looking very confident.
Still this is just
one game of many to see in this campaign in its start and looking very
promising for the Rose City squad seeking for the ultimate of glories, as their
next match will be against another undefeated and hardened Houston Dynamo squad at
home.
With the Dynamo
already showing signs of improvement and renovation in its starting eleven, the
PTFC will have a hard test and with Providence Park in the background and the
support of its fan base, the odds of a positive result can be possible.
For the Texans,
coming form a two game winning streak playing at home will be a test for them as
well the Timbers- playing as locals, the confidence of extending their positive
streak can be within their reach.
