A race to the top headlines a contested League of Ireland


With the Lilywhites of the Town won their match with a goal, rout at home over a sudden trouble Blues, contrary to the first placeholders the Hoops are four points lead over the defending champions. 

Suddenly the Bohemians after a strong start suddenly are dropping points with draws and for both Derry and Cork one losing in the Dublin Derby and The Rebel Army winning in a goal fest. 

In Finn Park the fireworks displayed by both Harps and Leesiders became the highlight of this week with a narrow one-goal win of the Rebel Army but in the end, both sides deliver their best efforts. 

With the local Harps scorers with Caolan McAleer 2’, Mark Coyle 37’ and Rafaelle Cretaro 81’ and for the visiting, side Conor McCarthy 15’, a double for Gearoid Morrisey 45’ and 58’ and Graham Cummins 70’ for the winning side.

Finn Harps 3, Cork City 4

Back in Inchicore colossus Richmond Park the Dublin Derby between Saint Patrick’s and Shamrock Rovers saw a battling Hoop side winning this round of this competition with a lone goal. 

With the Rovers Aaron McEneff scoring in the eight minute and seeing a boost in the defensive game of the visiting Shamrock Rovers squad and this win puts them atop the league top.

In Phibsborough the local Bohemians and Derry City as both Bohs and Candystripes shared the spoils and points for each squad with the Bohs scoring James Finnerty 76’ and Eoghan Stokes 52’.

Back in Oriel Park, finally an awakening of the might and power of the defending champions started running their offensive with success and for manager Perth seeing his side within four points of the top. 

For the Town the main scorers were Patrick Hoban 9’, Sean Murray 36’, Daniel Kelly 57’ and Cameron Dummigan 90’.  

Dundalk 4, Waterford 0

In the Showgrounds, the Bit O’ Red cruised to an easy win over the promoted UCD Students with a lone goal by Romeo Parkes in the 5’ minute, in the end the Rovers are on the plus thanks to their defense.
