LAFC 4, Portland Timbers 1
Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles, California
Yesterday in Banc of California Stadium, the Portland Timbers received a rude awakening with a goal rout and an inspired Black and Gold captain Carlos Vela assisting and scoring for his side win.
With both squads putting on a fight and keeping tabs on each other, this until the 14’ minute before the first goal play for Portland’s goalkeeper Jeff Attinella made a diving save to prevent their hosts first score.
Still not, even a minute passed by when the Angelinos Captain taking a corner he found immediately in the area an opportune and well placed Mark- Anthony Kaye to put the locals on the lead. That in spite of a not so orthodox play by Timbers midfielder David Guzman bear hugging him and he still scored.
However the Portland Timbers are one squad that fights backs and is does not back down that easily until the second half third goal, when a free kick taken by Diego Valeri he found a wealth of Timbers going for it and found Jeremy Ebobisse.
This play happened in the 29’ minute when Jebo scored his first goal of the season and many more of him to come. What if Jebo would score the second goal in the 56’ when Sebastian Blanco pass hit gold but a well-placed LAFC Walker Zimmerman prevented the equalizer.
The end of the first half the Tinsel Town side was up in the lead when a goal from Christian Ramirez scored the go-ahead goal in the 45th minute to go into intermission with the lead for the locals and their momentum in an all-time high!
As many expected the second half being a total contest between both sides, until the fatidic goal when Adama Diomande via Carlos Vela assist the man put the go ahead goal in the 65’ minute and exposing once again the defensive game for Portland.
As the dominance of the locals started being visible, the Timbers defensive game seeing once again another meltdown and surrendering to the push of Carlos Vela who scored the cushion goal in the 68’ minute. For the Mexican international who became the man of the match with three assist and one goal being the absolute leader.
In the end for the Timbers when it rains it pours with a red card after Diego Rossi theatrics fooled the likes of the game official Jair Marrufo and with no hesitation, he showed the red card to the Timbers defensive engine Diego Chara.
For the Portland Timbers going to their next compromise to the Midwest and newcomer in expansion side FC Cincinnati in a reunion with former PTFC Adi and Alvas Powell facing off their former team and with a lot of interrogatives.
Defense wins games and for the Portland Timbers manager Giovanni Savarese is in need of many changes in his backfield and hard work for sure things can turn for the better, two down ten to go.
