Relief after a disappointing win for the Republic of Ireland

Gibraltar 0, Republic of Ireland 1
Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar

For manager Mick McCarthy this win is somehow disappointing after barely beating the likes of minnows Gibraltar by just a lone goal in what seemed to be an easy win but a goal fest.

In matches like this and against rivals like this and with the opportunity to net not only a win but a goal rout that in the end can make a difference on goal differential if things come in the end in a tight situation.

Still a win is a win but it shows nothing comes in a golden platter for the Boys in Green that now these have to ready for their next match come Tuesday against the Republic of Georgia that lost in its debut with Switzerland.

For the Green Army playing in a tough pitch and against a nation with a squad so weak, everyone for sure will have its say but in the end three points is something to value in a group that the Republic of Ireland for sure will have its hands full.

However for Mick McCarthy is a win and praise some positives his team displayed all match long, especially its defensive backfield and among one of those outstanding being the goalkeeper Darren Randolph delivering many positives.

As the visiting Republic of Ireland and local Gibraltar going into halftime the second half became providential for the Irish side when Jeff Hendrick score the match lone goal in the 49th minute delivering a valuable win.

With room with improvement, I must state but if you recall the new system under manager McCarthy his initial eleven went in the field with a new formation and strategies, I can see many corrections to be make and possibly seen in the Georgia match.

As the song, states with a little luck the Green Army score highly with today’s result but the idea is the ability of capitalizing on this result and raising the bar on the levels of confidence of the players in the upcoming matches.

The way manager McCarthy is to see some improvements is that his squad creates some creativity and display a certain comfort in its players being in positions these can be comfortable and display the game they known.

As the 4-4-2, offensive prone formation sent by Mick became lethal as Mick would like a 4-3-3 but in the end for the Republic of Ireland Boss, he is happy with the positive result in spite of winning it by a thread.

For Tuesday’s match the outlook for the Boys in Green looks a bit promising coming with momentum ahead of this match against Georgia and with a win, these for sure will be riding high with the levels of confidence.

Very well, with a healthy squad, so far, things look a bit positive and the aim is to see a successful EURO 2020 run and be among those twenty teams that net their pass directly and not be looking forward to another playoff run.

To conclude the way to earn these goals is to win games with a minnow or a tough squad, the idea is to produce a prolific run in these qualifiers and with a healthy squad, results for sure will pour for the better.
