The NIFL recap with the Linfield Boys nearing the league title


Linfield score a valuable win over Institute and put on nine points lead over their closest chasers Ballymena United that lost at home against a hardened Glentoran making it interesting. 

In the case of the Crusaders netting a notable, win over the Reds but a little too late, the Point the Lurgan Blues and the Bannsiders netted important wins and sentencing both Ards and Newry City to a possible relegation.

In Windsor Park, the local Linfield Blues netted an important win and nearing another title in their history with a one of a kind win over Institute and seeing their closest foes losing.

For the local Blues the second half proved to be providential with a couple of scores from Jordan Stewart 62’ and Joshua Robinson 67’ that in the end deliver three golden points.

Linfield 2, Institute 0

In the Showgrounds, the local Sky Blues were victim of an upset from the visiting Glens when these delivered a clean sheet and shutting down Ballymena’s United game to stand still for the win. 

The Glens scorers were Paul O Neill in the 3’ minute and sentencing this mater later was Robbie McDaid in the 60’ minute to deliver mayhem over the locals and setting them back in the title race.

Ballymena United 0, Glentoran 2

In Belfast the always-celebrated Belfast Derby, one of many competitions in the capital, the defending champions delivered a blow to the Cliftonville Reds after their revival but cut short in Seaview.

As the local Crues with scores from Jordan Owens in the 5’ minute and later Kyle Owens 44’ minutes, these scores were enough to seal the win at home but a little too late in the end .

In Mourneview the local Lurgan Blues delivered a win by the minimum difference over the visiting Swifts with a lone goal in the 70’ minute by Josh Daniels.

Glenavon 1, Dungannon Swifts 0

Coming to Clandeboye Park in Bangor County Down, this match had all the elements of a contest between the locals Ards and the visiting Warrenpoint Town in a fight for both side’s survival and permanency.

With a lone score and goal from Point Seanan Foster in the 40’ minute to deliver, the game winning and shoot of life to the struggling point netting three golden points. 

Ards 0, Warrenpoint Town 1

The Bannsioders of Coleraine delivered a fatal blow to Newry City sentencing them too sure relegation with a goal rout as visitors and netting an important win over the City side. 

The scores from the Coleraine bunch came from Dean Shiels 28’, Cormac Burke 60’, Eion Bradley 78’ and James McLaughlin 90’ to seal the deal, for the losing cause Tiannan Rushe 50’ minute for City.
