Back to its old winning ways for Dundalk

Dundalk 4, Waterford 0
Oriel Park, Dundalk

A goal fest staged in Oriel Park by Vinnie Perth Lilywhites getting their wining grove back and doing it with one match at a time. In spite of notable players being in the DL, still these Lilywhites are one mean squad to mess.

With the Waterford Blues last season sensation on town for week four compromise. The local Town Boys put an amazing display of genuine football worthy from a champion’s squad defending its title.

Today’s win, puts the Town lads within four points from league leaders Shamrock Rovers playing an amazing campaign after their win against the Pats in the Dublin Derby.

Still this campaign is far from over and the Lilywhites with the majority of playmakers being sidelined with injuries. For manager Perth todays, his shuffling in the initial eleven paid off wonders and sent a clear message to all the squads in the league of the imminent return of the defending champions.

As manager Perth sending a 4-2-3-1 formation to face off a dangerous Blues attacking core that last campaign made all sorts of headlines for a promoted squad, tonight these showed their might with an all-around authority.

For the visiting, side Boss Alan Reynolds seeing his frustrations on the sidelines seeing how side is not delivering results and looking a bit trouble week by week and with no answers on a squad with a top class initial eleven.

As the defensive backfield stood strong and stopped the momentum that the visiting Waterford attacking crew started at times and being stopped cold by an impressive brick wall put on by Gary Rodgers and company.

With an early, score from Saint Patrick Hoban on minute 9’ sending the whole of Oriel Park into frenzy and later in the 36’ minute the go-ahead goal by Sean Murray going into halftime with a lead that they never surrendered.

Then in the second, half the likes of Daniel Kelly scoring in the 57’ minute the cushion goal and opening the door to newcomer Cameron Dunnigan in the 90’ minute to seal the deal and give their keeper a much-deserved clean sheet.

Now the Lilywhites are to travel up north to face off the renewed and hardened Derry City in Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
