Newcastle United 3, Everton 2
Saint James Park, Newcastle
These Magpies are for real and with an all-around comeback in the second half, these overcome a two zero deficit lead by the visiting Toffees on intermission but these did not count on the Geordies conviction.
A win on the road is somehow one thing the School of Science is looking forward in the remainder of this campaign as this somehow gives this squad a confidence booster and today in the Toon, these were within 45 minutes to seal the deal.
For the Toffees the first half was a providential for them after opening the score in the 18’ minute when a leaping Dominic Calvert- Lewin getting a nice center from Lucas Digne from the left side to put the visitors ahead with the lead.
Still the defensive skills of the Everton side was to be shown with national team keeper Jordan Pickford who after crating a play that lead to a penalty, with a near rugby tackle over Solomon Rondon.
By preventing, the equalizer in the 31’ minute when Matt Richie shoot blocked by Pickford the man redeemed himself after refusing the ball with his feet and left the whole of Saint James shocked in what seemed an easy score.
Not even a minute passed by when Everton with a play by Andre Gomes and the Magpies fenders claimed a foul calmly the center sent Andre Gomes placed meet by an opportune and well placed Richardlison scoring the second goal in the 32’ minute.
Still this match exposed the Magpies efforts in the course of this match; by the pep talk performed by Rafa Benitez in the locker room over his Geordies the second half was to show a hard fighting Newcastle.
As the tale of the tape shows a dominant home side in shoots at goal with a whopping nineteen shoots over seven of the visitors and with seven over three of the home side, but the reality saw the visitors holding a commanding two-goal lead.
Ask that to persistent Solomon Rondon who never gave up on his quest of beating the likes of Jordan Pickford an finally that moment came with a one two combination of Ayotze Perez assisting for the locals first score.
Still this match and half was to be for the man of the match in the Spaniard who scored a double and seal the deal for his Magpies putting a bit of distance from the relegation spots and see his Magpies sit comfortably in 13th place.
This play for sure exposes the weakness of the Everton defense and Pickford being surprised with back-to-back goals from Ayotze Perez picking up the shoot from Miguel Almiron and he sent it deep into the net for the equalizer.
In the 81’ minute, this contest escalated a little more and with more to come with an astonishing play in a volley that left the likes of Jordan Pickford and the whole Everton defense a bit dazzled and seeing how Ayotze Perez sentenced the match in the 84’ minute.
The rest became history and the Magpies sustain the Everton pressure to hold on the lead and win this match with an amazing comeback that seal the deal and a collapse from Everton heading back to Merseyside with the loss.
