What a weekend the
SSE league of Ireland had, with a one sided and dominated Dublin Derby, one spoiler
in Galway, a Wanderers squad that came
back into the plus side- alongside the Pats and Lilywhites plus a valuable Blues point.
As the always
celebrated and contested Dublin Derbies, whenever they staged between the
Shamrock Rovers and their cross-town rivals the Bohemians FC, you know the
all-around emotions these embody.
So far, in this
edition of the League of Ireland, the Hoops have come ahead over the Dalymont
Boys and this time playing in the colossus of Phibsborough were the Hoops came
ahead of the Bohs with a nice 2-0 result.
This in part thanks
to scores from Brandon Miele in the six and Trevor Clarke in the 26, the Rovers
so far have the upper hand an all-around control of the matches with such
easiness over the Gypsies.
The match that was
the highlight of this weekend matches in the SSE was the one between the
Tribesmen hosting the likes of the undefeated Cork City squad at Eamonn Deacy
Park and with a Rebel Army coming as a total favorite.
The unfortunate part
of the Leesiders were that after playing a resilient Galway squad were many
thought after these having a tough campaign, they were going to be the next
victims of the City Boys and celebrate their lucky number 13 win.
Wrong they were as
well many experts that they thought of the City squad netting an easy win as I
always state that there is no such thing than an easy foe and the Tribesmen
became the spoilers for John Caulfield and his bunch.
Despite this game
ending in a tie with Conor McCormack opening, the score for the City squad and
later for the locals not even two minutes passed, when Galway Stephen Folan put
the score to even the game at one goal apiece and stop the Rebel Army winning
streak at 12.
Limerick took a huge
step in their game against a visiting Derry City squad that almost delivered an
important win and at the end the local Blues with an opportune score from
Chiedozie Ogbene in the ninety minute.
That both squads had
to settle with the draw and divide one point per squad and leaving Limerick FC
in the sixth position with seventeen points and Derry City in fourth with
twenty points.
Finn Park was to host
a renewed Bray Wanderers squad looking forward to continue pushing towards the
league top and coming to play a modest and troublesome Finn Harps, the
Wanderers were certainly looking for three points.
No problem for the
Seagulls that are keeping a close chase on the Rebel Army that draw in their
match and the Gulls score three goals thanks to a score from Gary McCabe, Ryan
Brennan and Aaron Greene sealing the deal for the visitors.
For Liam Buckley and
his Pats were to host Drogheda United at Inchicore to a great duel and notable
win at Inchicore that saw its Pats rise to the occasion with goals from Ian
Berminghan and Kurtis Byrne to deliver an important win.
With three points of gold,
the Saints are moving up on the table and with thirteen points, these are solid
in eight spot in the overall table, the loss puts the Drogs within one point of
their victors and a difficult match next week against league leaders Cork City.
Lastly, the defending
champions Dundalk got back kin the positive side with a goal fest at Oriel Park
and taking with them what looks to be a doomed Sligo Rovers squad, as the
Lilywhites were in a desperate need of a win.
The Bit O’ Red troubles
are mounting in an odd campaign Manager Gerard Lyttle is going through and by
seeing how an inspired De Town Jamie McGrath came all around inspired to put in
the board three goals and his teammate Niclas Vemmelund following suit in the
90 minute.
With the win, the
Lilywhites are solid in third place and within a point of second place Bray
Wanderers and starting a move towards the top of the league held so far by the
Rebel Army.
For the week of May
19, Bray Wanderers hosts the Bohemians at Carlisle Grounds, at Turners Cross
Cork City will face off against Drogheda United, Derry City will showoff against
Shamrock Rovers at Brandywell, the Tribesmen of Galway City will host Finn
Harps.
The Inchicore Boys of
Saint Patrick’s Athletic will host Sligo Rovers and Limerick will receive in
Markets Field the likes of the Dundalk FC.
