A recap of a surprise filled weekend in the League of Ireland

Indeed, it was a spoiler of a weekend for many clubs in the League of Ireland as well a couple returning to its winning ways and one trying to do its best to rally away from the relegation spots.

With a surprising win over a renewed Bray Wanderers squad, the Dublin Boys from Phibsburg the Bohemians netted an important win at Carlisle Stadium over a stunned Seagulls squad looking forward to an easy win.

After the Gulls jumping on the scoreboard early, the Gypsies mounted a total domination of the match and with an inspired Danny Corcoran doing an encore with another double over the locals.

These fell from second to third place in the overall table and trailing Dundalk by just one point.

Very well seeing a sort of revival in the squad from Dalymont Park, the Bohs Manager could hide his joy of netting an import win as well adding points for his squad and moving away from the feared relegation spots.

Talking about Dublin Town, we had another exciting match for the Saints at Richmond Park, for the Pats by hosting a modest and struggling Sligo Rovers, still the odds favoring the squad of Manager Liam Buckley.

As the St. Pats coming from a positive streak and adding points in their favor after being in the early part of the campaign in the demotion zone, their awakening with a couple of draws and a win, puts them in the fight.

Very well in a favorable position in the overall table, as today's match seem a bit easy not today as the Reds became lethal in their attack in the end despite the Pats opening the score and later seeing how the visiting Bit O’ Red spoiled the fun.

With this draw, the Pats have fourteen points alongside Galway United, Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United and a match pending on Monday for the Tribesmen, the Bit O’ Red and Saints.

Maginn Park witness how its Boys delivered an important win and returning to the positive and looking forward to start moving to the top spots in the overall table, with just two points behind Bray.

With a blink of an eye from the Gulls, the Candystripes can take a leap among the top three spots.

A grand win for the Candystripes and at the same time putting a halt to the Hoops momentum with a notable 3-1 win over the Dublin squad who were looking to add points and start their move to the league top three spots.

Nice and convincing win for Derry City as well for their Boss Kenny Shields seeing once again a recovery of his squad, now focusing in league play, and looking forward to close the campaign on a high note.

Suddenly we have a contentious squad in the Tribesmen of Galway United, these too looking forward to salvage their campaign and this despite being in its early stages, the need of being as far as possible from the relegation spots is imperative.

So far tied with fourteen points and out of the danger zone, these along the Pats, Sligo and Drogheda, what separates all of them is just goal differentials, the need to add points via the way of winning, Galway all of a sudden is seeing a revival.

After a draw last week at home over the Rebel Army and stopping their winning streak as well netting three points of gold over a hapless Finn Harps squad, their aims are now set on their Monday night match.

A win is one valuable feat for the Tribesmen as the hero of the match Vince Faherty scoring in stoppage time to deliver and possibly see the start of something interesting for the chaps of Eamon Deacy Park.

For the defending champions the Dundalk FC squad finally the airs of winning are back for the Boys of Stephen Kenny who took a valuable win over a debutante Neil McDonald taking over the Blues and netting his fair share of reality.

The Lilywhites saw how an inspired David McMillan delivering with a double and Sean Gannon scoring the final blow to rout the locals and leaving Markets Field silent as the night and netting two abck to back wins in the campaign.

With this win, they are keeping pace over the league leaders Cork City with 16 points.

Lastly, the Cork City bunch keeps stacking the points and despite their winning streak ended at Galway, this weekend a win over an unlucky Drogheda United and by the minimum difference of one goal.

This win for sure will be a motivator for John Caulfield troops to continue their mastery over their league foes, with a goal rout over the Drogs and sending these to the bottom of the overall league table.

Once again, Sean McGuire set the tone of this match with a double accompanied by Karl Sheppard doing the same and Jimmy Keohane closing an afternoon filled with lots of fireworks for the Leesiders at home.

With this, win Cork City maintains an edge over its closest chasers and with a comfortable lead of thirteen points over Dundalk and Bray Wanderers, these are looking unstoppable in every match played.

Still for the Leesiders on Monday and with a couple of day’s rest these once again face off the Bit O’ Red Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds, what a weekend of high packed action football the League of Ireland lived.
