With all the essence
of permanence all over, the Swansea Swans took a huge step in their quest of
salvaging their stay in the ranks of the English Premier League with a valuable
win over an already relegated and frustrated Sunderland.
This win places the Welsh
bunch above the relegation spots and with a four-point lead over their closest
chasers the Hull City Tigers.
The fight for
salvation was on for some time for the Swans, Tigers, as vital it can be, and
despite the Hull City squad staging a revival, the perseverance of the Jacks became
prolific for them.
All of a sudden the
tables turned but for the best for the Swans.
A Saturday match with
Swansea playing at the Stadium of Light and facing a hapless and relegated
Sunderland squad, the heat was on Paul Clement and his bunch to make the
ultimate of miracles happen.
A win would assure them a possible ticket for
their stay and see the lights of another Premiership campaign after a seeing a
couple of managers failing in their attempts to turn things around for the best
at Liberty Stadium.
However, until the
arrival of French Paul Clement to the helm of this historic Welsh entity,
things started leveling until the Swans got into a series of odd results and
they were again in the relegation spots.
Still the bad streak
came to a halt when they lost to Watford on April 15, then the Jacks started
rolling in the plus with a win over Stoke and a week later a draw against a
streaking Manu, until the inevitable with a win over Everton.
Coming to Tyne- Wear
and play a Black Cats squad and despite these already packing to their new home
in the Championship League, the Swans were for a challenge as their hosts could
played the role of spoilers.
One thing the Jacks
came ready to play and with a couple of scores from Fernando Llorente in the
eight minute and later Kyle Naughton breaking a scoreless spell of a 141 games,
they seal the deal but with a price to pay from a frustrated home squad.
After the win, the
Swans had 38 points in the overall table and after the match between the
Crystal Palace and Hull City.
At the end, Hull City
endured a goal rout from their hosts Crystal Palace at Seelhurst Stadium and becoming
the third squad relegated and the Swans to see another day and play in another
campaign in Premiership.
A great weekend and valuable
it was for the Swansea bunch, one for delivering a notable win and later
assuring their stay in the big circuit and see its light, but the question
arises for its manager and front office.
One for Paul Clement what
campaign he expects with his Swans and the other will players of the likes of
Llorente and Sigurdsson leave as interest for the man from Iceland has been expressed
by many of the big guns in the English league.
Another question that
arises in Liberty Stadium, of what kind of reinforcements and if the Swansea
top will open up its wallet to bring quality players to Manager Clement to
front the likes of another contested campaign.
Very well how serious
will this club be in not seeing a repeat of another campaign of anguish and mediocrity
for the Swans faithful and start a contentious campaign to start something big
in the league of England.
At the end congratulations
to the Swansea Swans all round persistence and at the end perseverance that
enabled them to stay put and play again another campaign with the big Boys of Premiership.
