Dubbed as the revenge
match and seeing an encore of last campaign final between these two titans in the
Seattle Sounders and the Toronto FC.
With Century Link
Field in the background and site to stage this mano a mano between these two
titans, suddenly we have a twist of fortunes from last campaign final- when the
Rave Greens are in the negative and not having a prolific campaign.
In the other hand the
TFC are coming from a three match winning streak and looking good with two of
its top guns in Sebastian Giovinco and Jozi Altidore, being the main contributors
of their club sudden success and all around momentum.
As they, state in
boxing terms both squad’s lineups considered pound per pound complete.
Still todays match
was going to be a define both squads campaign and boost their stamina to front
in what seems to be a very contested campaign till its final.
Today’s match was a
leveled one and who put the initial score in the match, would been the victor.
Despite the TFC not
having their point man in Sebastian Giovinco, Eriq Zavaleta and Vctor Vazquez in
the initial eleven, the Reds manager Greg Vanney sent a formidable 5-4-1 formation
with a lone Jozi Altidore in the attack.
In the case of Seattle
Manager Brian Schmetzer sending a much conservative 4-2-3-1 formation with Will
Bruin in the attack and flank by a trio of aces in Dempsey, Lodeiro and Morris
to do the honors and try get their squad out of the hole.
This match became an
even affair for both squads throughout the whole match as both went on the task
of pestering each other’s backfields with several approaches to incommode the
likes of Clint Irwin and Stefan Frei.
In the case of Clint
Irwin and his backfield, they had to endure a series of vicious attacks and
thanks to their efforts and an opportune and accurate call by the game linesman
when Cristian Roldan called the Sounders Gustav Svensoon offside after a
Cristian Roldan free kick.
However the call stay,
the Sounders, and the 41,000 plus on attendance could believe what they saw as
this became the clearest of opportunities for the Rave Greens to open the score
in the sixth minute.
Nothing like that squad
last campaign sudden revival that netted them their first shield in MLS since
their inception and with today’s match failing to score in spite of being a dominant
squad with 63% overall possession in the match.
Today’s match put in
evidence of the slump the rave Greens are going through as well seeing what
many have dubbed it as the championship hangover, still time can be on the Emerald
City chaps to recover rand maybe make the jump to the top six spots.
However tonight match
and credit goes to the hot streaked Toronto FC who proved that not only at home,
they cans win but as a visitor too, a today’s match showed off the momentum
this club is going through lately.
Four wins in a row
and so far in first place in the overall table with just a point lead over
Orlando City, this speaks loudly of the achievements earned lately by this Canadian
bunch.
Still the irony of
this match was when Roman Torres, the Panamanian who define the match at BMO
Field to deliver the win and the club first shield, today's he became the game
goat and with Jozi Altidore delivering the shoot in the 23 minute.
That at the end
became the game winner for the TFC as well a great win to savor for the Reds Boss
Greg Vanney who came shorthanded and at the end his moves and improvisations in
the lineup were a sure winner.
