No contest here in
Emirates Stadium, when the Gunners were to play one of the league most pathetic
and mediocre of squads, AFC Sunderland.
Still for the Arsenal
bunch, this was not another match as their hopes are still pinned for finishing
among the top four.
In addition, this was
not just another match for the Londoners as this result and the upcoming will
be crucial for their quest of salvaging their troubled campaign with a Champions
position or finish.
Despite the win for
the Gunners, these are much dependent on the upcoming results for next week
matches being the last of Premiership and for sure, a little help from their friends
in Boro and a win against Everton.
Those two fixings
will be ideal for Arsenal.
I mean it does not come
easy for the Gunners that are fighting to the end to nab one of those coveted positions
to continue in their streak that spans for more than twenty or so years consecutively.
The Rokerites despite
their relegation and out of Premiership picture, still play with certain hunger
and disposition of playing the role of spoilers, for the Gunners this felt like
a threat as well pressure before game time.
In the case of Manager
Arsene Wegner, the Frenchman proved again how valuable his services can be and in
much demand to see a continuance of his work at Holloway, sending a very
dynamic and pushy 3-4-2-1 formation.
To counter any of the
Black Cats offensive push and game, that at the conclusion of this match these
did not show any amusement or made the likes of Petr Cech feel the strain or
dangers of any attack from David Moyes squad.
The overall idea of
the Gunners Boss was to not lay down their guard and play like a final.
However, this match belonged
to the likes of Alexis Sanchez who had a dandy of a day with a couple of goals
that proved to be sufficient for the Arsenal bunch to seize the win as well
keep them in the hunt if not alive in their quest to fourth place.
As everyone is aware
in London that nothing comes easy or served in a silver platter as their
Gunners see their chances grow everyday with every match played and won in a
significant fashion to dream big and ambition for the ultimate of prizes.
One thing for sure
the men of the match and the savior was Alexis Sanchez who became lethal for the
visiting Sunderland defense that at times had to double its coverage with its
wingers of not allowing any liberties to the locals.
At the end, the
Gunners with a win over the Toffees can finish the campaign with 75 points
alongside losses from Man City and Liverpool.
So far in the overall
table Manchester City is solidified a spot in third place, with Liverpool in fourth
place with 73 points one point ahead of the London Boys, come May 21 the
Gunners for sure they will know their faith.
