The defending
champions are stating their case, and in this edition of the Louth Derby, these
became the dominant eleven in United Park, that silenced this colossus totally
with a goal fest.
However, their chase
for first with a streaking and foremost league leader in the Rebel Army of Cork
City, seeing their lead increase to eighteen points.
Very well, for Stephen
Kenny squad in today’s match, establishing themselves as the dominant eleven in
United Park, once again the Lilywhites dominated completely the course of this match.
With an inspired initial,
eleven who saw the likes of David McMillan who opened the score for the
visitors with a first goal in the 36 and five minutes later scores again in the
41 to increase the lead.
As Dundalk was
cruising to an easy win very well showing off its might, things started
becoming difficult for the locals as they saw their side depleted with a red
card to Thomas Byrne for a challenge over Patrick McEleney in the 31.
Leaving the local Droghs,
initial eleven with a man short and just ten men to contain a hungry and wild attack
displayed by the visitors all match long.
Despite the visitors David
McMillan scoring a double set of goals on the posts defended unsuccessfully by
United goalie Stephen McGuinness who saw his luck go from the worse after
seeing his defensive backfield overshadowed.
Still after McMillan,
double, the visitor’s third goal came before the end of the first half, with a
nice shoot by Patrick Eleney to put the score at 3-0 and putting the locals and
its manager Peter Mahon into the abyss.
With the second half
underway the Lilywhites Micheal Duffy put the scores way ahead in the 59 minute
when the fourth goal and sealing the deal for the visitors.
In addition, this
match was not to end with just four goals and it is when the visitors Ciaran
Kilduff put the icing on the cake and in the 83 and 85, he deliver with another
double to put the final score to a scandalous league rout of 6-0.
Despite the overall
lead at first place by Cork City and their multiple point’s advantage, the
Dundalk squad will not let go in their intentions pf catching up in the top and
overtaking the overall lead.
Perseverance will be
the best ally for Kenny and his bunch- especially when Cork City sees an exodus
of players going to other squads and especially their most important players in
Maguire and others.
As well seeing a continuance
in the plus for Dundalk, maybe they can catapult themselves to the league top
around August or September, before its end and possibly aspire for a fourth
shield.
For now, Dundalk and
its Boss will take and play cautiously in every match in this campaign and
looking forward to a successful close of campaign, as with today’s match they
sent a message to all of their league foes.
Nothing is for nobody
yet and this league is far from over for Stephen Kenny and his Dundalk FC Boys,
with a simple, we are back!
