Rivalry Week highlights a painted Blue Hudson Derby

Ever since the inception of the Sky Blues in Major League Soccer, this gave birth to the Hudson Derby, seen as a much-contested rivalry between these two neighbors and one having the upper hand.

With the New York Red Bulls having the best record between these two squads, suddenly the tables turned in favor of the NYCFC today at Red Bull Arena, seen as a first for the Bronx squad.

So far these two squads have played altogether in seven matches and so far the Red Bulls have won five matches in both Red Bulls Arena and at Yankee Stadium, for the NYCFC they have only won a couple with today’s match in the colossus of Harrison, New Jersey.

As the New York Red Bulls winning their first, four matches and among one of them via a merciless 7-0 rout on May 21, 2016 at Yankee Stadium the home of the NYCFC, for the humiliating loss.

This time the NYCFC was ready and prepared to put on a fight and won their first match in Red Bull Arena considered a fortress for visiting squads as well a tough place to net a positive result.

Not todays as the NYCFC deliver with a couple of scores via Jack Harrison assisted by Rodney Wallace and Ben Sweat in the 33 and later in the second half with the go ahead goal from Ben Sweat assisted by Alexander Ring in the 65.

Contested and much disputed are these Derbies, as I always dubbed them the Big Apple, and this one was no exception with both squads netting yellow cards with NYCFC Maxine Chanot, Thomas McNamara and Alexander Ring.

In addition, for the locals Red Bulls Michael Amir Murillo, Alex Muyl and Kemar Lawrence all of these players getting a reprimand from the official in turn for unsporting behavior.

Still this match meant a lot for the NYCFC Boss Patrick Vieira, after losing previously in the US Open Cup by just a goal adding to their negative count since these squads have played, but today was a different day.

As the tale of the tape shows off a busy afternoon for both defensive backfields, for the Sky Blues keeper it was a nice day with a clean sheet and the opposite for Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles.

No wonder Robles had a hard time all afternoon with the Bronx Boys shooting a total of 13 times with six shoots on target and just three off and four blocked, contrary to the Red Bulls  10 shoots, 1 on target and four off and five blocked.

This made a whole world of difference for the visitors as they won it with style and not allowing their hosts display the game they are the most comfortable with, among one of them Bradley Wrigth Phillips, Sasha Klejstan and Felipe.

With the whole Red Bulls, initial eleven being master and dominated by a feisty and hard fighting NYCFC, looking forward to even their series and become the dominant squad cross the Hudson.

At the end both squads with two more showdowns in league play these matches will decide who will be this campaign central figure in the so-called Big Apple or Hudson Derbies.
