The streak ends in Colorado for the Portland Timbers

After a successful home stand-the Portland Timbers were coming with a two match-winning streak as well an all-around momentum, before tonight’s match against a low flying Colorado squad.

The Portland Timbers squad got surprised in the last minutes of this match before it ended of possibly rescuing a valuable point on the road.

After the start of the campaign the Rose City Boys posting a much improved record on the road, recently these have entered a slump in these away games and this is becoming once again as their Achilles heel.

For Portland coming to Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado and play their first match of the campaign versus their conference rivals, tonight’s match looked like a possible win and a valuable one if it was on the road.

With the return of Darlington Nagbe to the lineup after his stint with the Stars and Stripes in World Cup qualifiers, the visiting team had a majority of its staring eleven, despite missing David Guzman on international duty and Liam Ridgewell on the DL .

The combination of Olum and Miller has proved successful in the beginning of the campaign for Manager Porter in defense and these accompanied in the sides by Vytas and Valentin.

This was one sharp looking defensive backfield from the get go of this match.

As the back midfielders in Diego Chara and Darlington Nagbe these latter one playing a defensive position, instead of his offensive one, but with the possibilities of a much dynamic and spectacular offensive game combines with Valeri, Blanco, Aspirilla and Adi in the frontal attack.

Made this match look like an easy endeavor for the Timbers, by playing a modest Rapids squad that in this campaign has seen its luck getting at times for the worse, but recently at home they have become an armada.

For sure the squad of Pablo Mastroeni did not looked as an easy squad to beat as I always state in some posts, that there is no such thing than an easy foe and once again the Colorado Boys proved it.

Lately the game and contribution by Sebastian Blanco are making a world of difference for the Portland squad as he lately has taken a leading role and in tonight’s match, he contributed with the first goal.

After his score in the 18 minute, Blanco scored his second goal of the campaign with Valeri assisting and the Portland Boys were in total command of the actions and heading for a win, and making the Colorado keeper work overtime and earn his pay.

Still this affair was not over and one thing the locals supported by its followers these started taking over the match and dominating completely in the second half and they did it with a furious reaction.

With Colorado Dominique Badji in the 51 getting an assist via Kevin Doyle, the score was even at one, as the matches continue its course within minutes of the game almost being in its final minutes, the unexpected happen.

An opportune Alan Gordon with a Mohammed Saeid and Caleb Calvert these two made it happen for Gordon to become the hero and despite the extra time awarded to this match, little the Portland Timbers could do.

At the end, the match ended with a loss for the visitors and Colorado once again proved that at home is no picnic to play against and increasing its winning streak that uplifts them away from the cellar in the Western Conference.
