A clean sheet and a
valuable win for the Portland Boys, thanks to an inspired Diego Valeri playing
his role of el Jefe and leading his squad to a one of a kind win over hapless San Jose Quakes.
After that road loss
to the Silicon Valley Boys, this win was a sort of payback as well getting back
in the positive after an unfortunate skid the Rose City squad was experiencing
lately.
The Andean with a double
set of goals in the second half, put this game away after the Quakes left short
of a man after their midfielder Darwin Ceren, after posting a double but in the
way of yellow cards, sent packing.
After that the Quakes
initial eleven was not the same and surrendering to the push of el Jefe Diego Valeri.
That really hurt the
San Jose game and opened up the opportunity for the Portland squad to become
creative and sure they did it with their one and only master in the field, Diego
Valeri.
As the San Jose Quakes
considered a tough foe to play for the Portland squad, today the difference maker
became that valuable double set of goals that seal the deal.
Very well uplifting
the Rose City squad to third place in the overall table and waiting results in
this weekend matches in all MLS fronts, especially from Dallas playing at home against
Real Salt Lake and SKC receiving a hot streaked Minnesota.
So far, todays win
puts the Portland squad in a 6-5-3 record and trailing Houston by two points
that head ups the Western Conference with 23 points and SKC in second with 22,
but tomorrows’ matches and results will give a clearer picture of the West
standings.
despite that, for Portland their position above the red line will be the same.
Another positive of
this match was the overall dominance in the match and in the statistics, that uplifts
Portland game to a high, with a consecutive tally ahead of their foes in
overall shoots, the Portland squad is looking like its gaining its lost momentum.
With an overall 20
shoots and 8 of those on target and 2 blocked ones, making every minute of this
game a living hell to the Quakes defensive backfield- left to defend after being
a man short.
Ask that to a busy San
Jose keeper David Bingham doing his best to contain the Timbers constant and furious attacks.
Still this evening
was to belong to Diego Valeri, who opened up the score in the second half thanks
to an opportune Zarek Valentin cross that opened up the score in the match and
for El Maestro who in tonight's match, made honor to its moniker.
Another highlight of
the match was the defensive backfield defending overzealously their one goal
lead until the second goal and what proved to be the go ahead and that sealed the
win.
Give credit to the Timbers defense for their heroics.
Unfortunately, nothing
is perfect as Portland once again lead in the fouls with 20 and three of its
players got yellow cards in Diego Chara, David Guzman and Roy Miller for unsporting
behavior.
A win is a win and
this opens up the possibilities of next week match at home against Dallas with
a positive attitude and mood to seek a win, that at the end be considered as important
and valuable, that can open up a positive streak.
At the end how sweet,
it is the thrill of victory!
