Scandalous is the appropriate
word to describe the way the Leesiders of Cork City are playing without seeing
or knowing the meaning of defeat in this edition of the League of Ireland.
With a match
considered and seen as an all-around Derby in league circles, whenever the
Rebel Army and Lilywhites face each other, this time the defending champions
had a momentum coming back home at Oriel Park.
After the Dundalk
squad was regaining its form that has made them the league back to back
champions three years consecutively, this time not even with the support of their
followers they prevented a rout.
I mean the defensive
side of Kenny troops could not stop an inspired and dangerous Sean Maguire who
dispatched the locals with a treble to become the league overall leader in
scoring as well his club maintain a perfect run in the campaign.
As Cork City is
running atop the league table with eighteen points lead over Dundalk, this win
came as a pail of cold water for Stephen Kenny and his bunch looking forward
to catch up the league leaders as well play the role of spoilers.
For Cork City, this
was an amazing win by a 3-0 score over Dundalk FC.
In the Dublin Derby between
the Shamrock Rovers and Saint Patrick Athletic, for Liam Buckley the Pats Boss
looking forward to mount a revival for his group currently situated in the bottom spots, this match meant a lot.
At the end this match
ended up all even between both squads with a goal apiece, sharing the points
when for the local Hoops Graham Burke scored in the 17, and later in the second
half came for the Saints Christopher Fagan in the 55.
The Showgrounds became
the site of another even but scoreless match in this week, when the Bit O’ Red could
not take advantage by playing as local to defeat the Finn Harps and gain three
points.
However just a point for
the Sligo squad still struggling to keep away from the bottom spots and start
its move up as well the Harps with their struggles of their own, but in a
better position in the table.
In Dalymont the
Bohemians hosted the Drogs of Drogheda United to another even and scoreless
match with both squads getting their fair share of just a mingy point, but
better than nothing.
As the Gypsies are
currently in seventh place ahead two points of the Harps and the Droghs a point
ahead of Sligo in the ninth position.
With a match
scheduled in Derry City’s Maginn Park, the local Candystripes continue their
unbeaten run and continue adding points in their favor and taking advantage of a
struggling Bray squad skid, their match again the Tribesmen of Galway United.
As the Derry Boys did
not hesitated to open up the score via an early goal by Ronan Curtis in the 5
and Nathan Boyle in the 9 minutes, to give the locals the lead despite the
score from Galway’s Gary Shanahan in the 25.
This win puts the
Candystripes in third place with twenty-eight points, one ahead of the Gulls
who lost, and slipped to fourth place in the league overall table, a final
score of 2-1.
To conclude in this
week at Markets Field in Limerick between the Blues and a Bray Wanderers
suddenly seeing their amazing start going into a total meltdown, in what proved
to be a goal fest in this match.
The final victor
became the local Limerick Boys who saw a parade of scorers in Chiedozie Ogbene
with a double, in the 13 and 18, Rodrigo Tosi 34, Bastien Hery 87 and Dean
Clarke 89.
For the visiting Bray
Wanderers with scores via Ryan Brennan 20, Aaron Greene 24 and Gary Mcabe in
the 70, this rally came short for the Gulls and at the end they surrendered
another important match to slide into fourth place.
Who will stop Cork City?
