Shamrock Rovers 1, Saint Patrick Athletic 0
Tallaght Stadium, Dublin
With another match decided via an own goal, this week of action in the Airtricity League of Ireland, gave the local Shamrock Rovers a valuable win in the Dublin Derby. With another disputed edition of this, contest between the hosts Hoops and their cross-town foes the Saints of Saint Patrick’s Athletic.
By the looks of this match seeing a hotly defensive contest whenever these two titans face off and looking forward to see who is tops in this contest. This time the luck favored the local Rovers seeing how an own goal from the visiting Pats spoil the match for their manager Liam Buckley.
As this match proved to be another defensive marvel in this week, many in attendance after the defiance from both defensive backfields delivering a duel, unfortunately for the Pats former Aston Villa man Kevin Toner, his efforts went in vain.
After his mishap in the 77 minute, his world came crumbling down handing down the winning goal for their cross town rivals in a shape of a gift on the eve of Irelands Holiday Saint Patrick’s Day.
In this match that saw the local Hoops dominating the match in its entirety the heroics put on by the visiting Saints goalkeeper Barry Murphy rising to the occasion and denying the Hoops strikers any liberties of celebration. Along with his court of defenders of Simon Madden, Lee Desmond, Kevin Toner and Ian Bermingham who these entire rose to the occasion until the above-mentioned mishap.
I give kudos to the local backfield that rose to the occasion, defensively speaking the Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Tomer Chencinsky getting kudos for his one of a kind performance under his posts. Also doing his best to keep at any cost his clean sheet and thanks to Ethan Grace, Roberto Lopes, Lee Grace and Trevor Clarke, contributing for the win.
Still this match had its moments offensively for both squads looking at any cost to open up the score and the win, among one of the highlights was the defensive gem put on by both squads and despite the opportunities created.
For the Pats with the likes of Ina Turner, Christy Fagan and Owen Hargan doing some moves to try and beat the likes of Checinski who lost his starting job and at the end came ahead of the visitors opportunities successfully.
As the Hoops via Graham Burke, Brandon Miele, Sean Kavanaugh and Ronan Finn were the locals most accurate and creating; some dangerous moves towards the Pats posts and these were just simple intents.
Despite the win for the Rovers at the end the overall winners was the 4200 in attendance who enjoyed a grand match and at the end did not left disappointed from the showdown between these two Dublin based squads.
This win puts the Shamrock Rovers solidly in fourth place with 12 points versus the Saint Patrick’s Athletic with 7 and in seventh place overall, to close down a busy Premiership weekend in the League of Ireland.
