Toronto looking for another first

You never forget your first time, and for the Boys of the TFC after being the first Canadian squad to win the coveted MLS shield last campaign. Now they are looking to add to their collection another prestigious trophy in the CCL.

After netting an important lead at home over a tough to beat squad in the Mexican league Tigres from UANL, the Reds did the ultimate of feats after advancing towards this important event semifinals.

Reach for the stars and with this win away, marks an important feat for Major League Soccer squads to get positive results’ playing away especially in Mexico or Costa Rica where in these lands are  somehow difficult for the American squads.

To eliminate the La Liga MX champions and considered one of the utmost of squads to beat at home by teams in Mexico and foreign alike. This is something of a feat and for the 2017, MLS champions Toronto yesterday doing the feat at Monterrey, Mexico.

I must state this is one major achievement, after their first leg match played in BMO Field in Toronto the Reds took advantage of their condition of locals and got away with a 2-1 win but they came with a slight advantage with that away goal from the visitors.

In the second leg playing in the always infamous Stadium nicknamed El Volcan or volcano, Estadio Universitario showing off its best galas and with a total sold out, the Canadians were to not only to play against a star studded initial eleven but its raucous fan base.

With a slight lead, after Tigres opened the score with Eduardo Vargas little did this advantage was to celebrate by the visitors when TFC Sebastian Giovinco tied the match and later Jonathan Osorio to seal the deal in the first leg.

Yes the feat was done but in part, as the  return match in Mexico were American based MLS do not perform well, this is something the TFC turned the tables and did the ultimate of upsets elevating the name of this professional soccer association high.

As Tigres started, the match with a powerful barrage of missiles towards the posts defended by Toronto Goalkeeper Alexander Bono, at the end the visitors defensive backfields persevere for the win.

Once again the strategies created by manager Greg Vanney worked wonders after he overcome one of the Mexican league top rated manager Ricardo Tuca Ferretti to net the win and advance to this event semifinals waiting for a rival to be chosen.

At the end, Greg Vanney and his Reds are now looking for another feat and this can become the CCL shield being the first for an American club ever since its new format in 2008. As no MLS, squad has won this event, with the Montreal Impact coming close just losing to Mexican giant club America.
