A Recap of a manic Monday in the League of Ireland



Once again, the Blues of Waterford are making all sorts of headlines in this edition of the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland. With a Monday schedule and the league returning to action, many squads with just a couple days rest delivering mayhem on this manic football Monday.

With a match scheduled at home of the recently promoted Waterford FC, the Regional Sports Centre showed up its best galas and with a notable attendance from the newcomers followers supporting their beloved Blues.

By hosting the improved and renewed Bohemians FC, the Blues did put on a defensive gem of a match and delivering with just a lone goal in the 51by Sander Puri, this lone score became enough for Alan Reynolds and company.

Despite the Gypsies several intentions and testing the local’s goalkeeper Lawrence Vigoroux with several intents, at the end the Waterford clan overcome the visitor’s reaction and rally to persevere for the win.

In Phibsborough, the locals Saint Patrick Athletic hosted and frustrated the visitor’s momentum with an even score at zero goals and netting their fair share of points. 

As the colossus of Dublin Richmond Park saw how Liam Buckley and company put a dent on the Dundalk FC aspirations to gain some ground on the league top squads Waterford and Cork City.

In Brandywell, the Derry City Boys enjoyed a formidable return home with a goal rout over the visiting Super Blues of Limerick FC. With a 5-0, score a sort of getting even or bouncing back after that disastrous Dublin performance on Saturday.

With this, win Kenny Shiels and company are back in contention and awakening after a slow start in this edition of the Airtricity, with a treble of an afternoon from Ronan Hale scoring in the 9, 70 and 73, enough to seal the deal.

Also with Ronan Curtis in the 61 and Aaron McEneff 64, these score were enough to crown the win to an afternoon the local Derry fans will not forget as well Tommy Barrett seeing once again his defense fall victim to another rout. 

Derry City 5, Limerick 0

The defending champions returning to Turner’s Cross and deliver a notable win over the visiting Shamrock Rovers to a lone score in the 38 scroed by Kieran Sadlier.

After the tumultuous win in the weekend by the Hoops at home, today their scoring aces totally shut off by a determined and stingy Rebel Army defensive core, rising to the occasion and deliver a one of a kind win and a clean sheet.

Cork City 1, Shamrock Rovers 0

Going to Bray Carlisle Grounds were the troubled Gulls were to play the Sligo Rovers, both squads hungry for points and especially in the way of a win, at the end the visiting Bit O’ Red came ahead with three golden points.

With scores from Caolan McAleer 21 and 28 minute, the man raise to the occasion with a double and delivering another blow to the troubled Bray Wanderers side with another loss and sentencing them to the abys of relegation. 

For the Gulls in the 64, Paul O’ Conor put the locals within distance but at the end the Rovers persistence made them the victors.
