Dundalk returning to its old winning form

With a lone score by Patrick Hoban in the 4 minute, that was enough for the Lilywhites to deliver a valuable win at home over the defending champions Cork City.  Ever since October 2016, the Dundalk squad did not deliver a win playing against the City sqaud, but today that became a different story.

With the League of Ireland returning to action, among one of the matches of this week was the Dundalk FC versus Cork City Derby as these two have developed a certain rivalry from quite some time.

As today’s match had all the essence of a full rematch between these two titans looking for the ultimate of glories as well both squads reinforcing their lines after several of their top players leaving.

After last campaign, struggles by the local Dundalk, losing several matches considered important, and at the end of the campaign, they ended up surrendering the league shield to an ambitious Rebel Army.

Unfortunately, the Leesiders did not played one of their best matches of the campaign and with no firepower and their Captain troubled by a possible expulsion by the game official, manager John Caulfield had to make abrupt changes in his lineup.

The City squad had to endure a tough loss and wait for another occasion to start another campaign as spectacular as 2017 when they won 21 matches in consecutive order and this time their aims were to repeat such a feat.

As rivalry weekend announce for this weekend action and this being one of its utmost important matches, the Dundalk FC officials put in display their desires of seeing their club back in contention if not reclaiming the league shield. By parading promo posters with the words “Taking back the Throne”.

The Lilywhites initial eleven today put in display their desires of being a reality in the end of the campaign with a single goal and defending overzealously in what seemed to be a bad evening for the visiting City Boys.

In the locals that became a different tale as the game hero and lone goal scorer immediately became a very busy bee in the side of the Rebel Army surrendering a couple of free kicks and it’s when Hoban delivered.

For the Leesiders manager making a couple of moves with and early move in the 21 with Barry McNamee and in the 77 Jimmy Keohane subbing for Garry Buckley, but no effect this moves gave to John Caulfield bunch to try and stage a comeback rally.

At the end this match sends a clear message that the Lilywhites are back and looking forward to a grand campaign in this 2018 and a return to its old glory days.
