Liverpool 0, Porto 0
That maybe, but after the Liverpool Reds eliminating Portugal’s side Porto FC, the Anfield Boys are sending a clear message of their intentions of not going empty handed in this campaign. Forget the league cup, with Manchester City on the verge of netting the Barclays shield.
The UEFA Champions League considered a top honor for any European squad and with the Boys from the Kop so far showing a successful run in this prestigious tournament.
After taking over Porto FC and moving on to quarterfinals of this event, for the Reds manager Jürgen Klopp looking forward to his first major shield of this class to add in his list of honors.
Still these need to define a rival that can be of the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
This is if the Reds move on to the next stage of semifinals, their perfect run can see them paired with tournament favorite, Manchester City or any other from Premiership.
For now, the Liverpool squad is slowly doing the right things in the field and with tonight’s all around feat over the always-difficult Dragons- that saw their luck diminished with an even score in Liverpool of zero goals.
However, the final score allowed the locals, to advance to the next phases with a 5-0 aggregate.
As the memories of 2004-05 in Istanbul are present for any Liverpool follower and after tonight, dreaming of a sixth Champions Shield making it to the Kop halls will be one amazing thing that can happen in the Klopp era.
As Klopp sent a 4-3-3 formation but missing several starters among one of them his scoring sensation in Mohamed Salah- getting a deserved break, Liverpool saw many substitutions in its lineup and still pulled through.
Opposite to them was a 4-1-4-1 formation sent by its manager Sergio Concecao, suggesting a full attack and looking forward to turn the score against them with a sort of miraculous run that at the end never arrived.
With Liverpool standing its ground and Anfield being a branch of Liverpool’s most famed sanitarium, today was crowned by another marvelous performance that despite no goals scored, still their Reds are moving on to be among Europe’s elite.
For Liverpool in both Premiership and Champions League, these have shown a high degree of confidence this squad is getting from its players and by the way, they are performing every week with a grand display of mastery over its league foes.
Now a win this weekend over Jose Mourinho Manchester United will be a step for the better and in the future we may have another successful run like that 2013 under then Brendan Rodgers that almost caresses the Barclay’s Shield.
At the end for Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is another feat and now move on to his next assignment and deliver with his Reds, with a smile characteristic of this man he will do what he does best, win!
