The battle of who reigns supreme on England’s south coast was Premiership paramount match scheduled on Monday night in the colossus of Saint Mary’s when the boys of Brighton Hove and Albion came to town.
Before this match both squads were looking to move up the standings, in the end the share of points leaves them near one another with the Saints holding a slight lead by a goal differential.
However, this match had all the elements of contest a disputed one since the beginning despite the final score ending up in a tie match but with the satisfaction for the Gulls Boss of stealing, a point and seeing his squad come from behind.
As the home side started taking control early in the match and with a one of kind goal from outside the area, the Saints opened up the lead thanks to their man from Denmark Pierre Emile Hojberg in the 35’ minute.
With halftime in favor of the Saints, for sure these had the feeling of netting an important if not notable win over the visiting Gulls, when disaster struck once again the visitors inside the area and Danny Ings took care of the action.
After the game official called a penalty, Ings was in charge of putting the ball inside the nets in the 65’ minute to the dismay of the visitor’s manager Chris Houghton seeing in disbelief how his squad was heading for a sure loss.
Still with a lot of time in the clock, it is when the Albion side started to word arduously to look to get something going in their offensive attack and step up their game to look for the draw, which in the end; these had the reaction their manager wanted.
We had a game, with just a couple of minutes passed when Irish international and Albion defender Shane Duffy score from 12 yards and marking the first goal of the visitors to make this affair a bit interesting when the Gulls opened up the score.
Now we had a match, the reaction of the visitors was becoming visible after Anthony Knockaert assist finding, opportune Duffy put the game within one goal difference, and the fight started escalating for the Brighton Boys.
As the fight in the end paid off for the Seagulls, with a foul inside the area now provoked by the Saints defense and leaving the stage set for Glenn Murray who score the penalty kick in the 91’ minute on injury time.
Despite the official added five minutes in the game, in the end Southampton getting three clear opportunities in the end the Brighton defense came up high and persevere in the end for the draw and share of spoils.
